  • Morning folks,

2 AFDs and I feel very good. tidying and packing as I am catching the train in a few hours for my weekend away. I will do my best to limit my intake - will be using your tips and reminding myself of how bad I will feel in the morning!

    Have a good weekend

    Hi all,
On the subject of what helps who(m?) - I offered this before but no takers - is anyone interested in Allen Carr's "Easy Way to Control Alcohol" book? I am happy to send it foc if someone PMs me their address, the postage is only a couple of quid & i'm in a generous mood ;) .
Well done Shoppy!! & Biscotte - have a good & careful weekend....

Ref what Bis said earlier about a switch inside each of us - something's flicked mine....I actually don't feel like drinking this week (though this is only AFD 3, but instead of it being an effort it's, um, can't think of the word....not an issue) so am not having to draw on my tiny reserves of willpower. Don't know why, though I know it won't last....hope it switches back for the weekend  :rotfl: .

Wouldn't it be great to feel like this 4/5 days a week & not have the battle.....((((sigh)))), then enjoy a few glasses at the weekend & switch back again.....((((bigger sigh))))

Let me know about The Book!
  • Wow, so may people are doing really well. I managed AFD2 yesterday and am cautiously optimistic about making it through number 3 today. Felt really teary and low yesterday but not sure if it's the decrease in alcohol or just some other stuff going on. In contrast the evening, my usual danger time, was relatively easy.

Have a good Thursday evening everyone.

Hi All- well done everyone- stirling effort guys.

Jo, I have had the librium detox too, but it was only by reduction detox that I finally managed to stop because the withdrawal is less harsh and as you reduce I think you start to come back to life, start feeling hungry and eating, and the brain fog clears gradually- when I did the librium detox's (at home and in hospital) it all happens so quickly and you still feel like an out of control drunk but you just don't have any alcohol left inside you. You need to do a lot of thinking and reasoning and it you are zonked out on librium everythings just foggy and you can't do the 'head' work along side the 'physical work'.

Totally agree with the switch idea- I have no idea why after 7 detox's this time is different- if I knew why I could bottle it and make a fortune. I do know that I am much easier on myself now, I've got the work/life balance right and give myself time to relax and avoid stress- I don't try and do it all anymore and can say 'no' if I start to feel overwhelmed. Most of all I feel calm and after a lifetime of worrying about every little thing and problem I finally feel I've got things in proportion.

    Take care everyone
  • Hi ~AFW's (Alcohol Free Wannabe's)
I've had a brilliant month including 6 AFD's in a row - i reckon i have cut booze down by 70% at the moment - although tonight after a LOOOONG week including working my day off last night - i am treating myself to some beers whilst cruising here and watching TV trash :)
I have noticed that i am treating myself rather than needing beers at the moment - which was a startling realisation!

I have found keeping busy helps - i'm lucky 7 snakes and 2 cats keep me busy as well as giving over some of my time to the local Cub Scout goup - So does volunteering for overtime at work...

Some good success stories here which is good to see and great support for others who are struggling at the moment - Great to see good suport - you never know when you are going to need help!

    Fantastic place here!

I've said my bit about AA before but to re-iterate, there was a lot there for me although I did not take a lot of the structure literally.

Once I'd realised some grim home truths and understood the problem more, I was able to start coming to terms with it and the relief was indescribable. I cost me so little yet gave me so much BUT I don't need to go back because I changes - I don't really need to go daily/weekly thing because I am fortunate enough going on in my life to not really be able to dwell on things that could destroy me.

As for the Higher Power....I had to do some substitution and believe that the Higher Power was my wife and family - and that was worth fighting for.

Ultimately there was only me who could decide to fix this.

SO - AA wil always have respect from me - it helped me up when I was really in a mess and showed me the way out. Getting up and staying up though is up to us all.

I hope you're all strong in the ways that you want to be today.

    take care.
For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 2007
  • Morning all

Well, failed miserably yet again:o Went to my friends house before dance class and had a glass of red then got the taste for it and called for beers for OH (of which he drank one and a half then went to bed) and bottle of white and bottle of red for me - drank all white and half red :o , fell asleep on sofa and woke up with stiff neck at 3am then went up to bed, seconds later (or so it seemed!) my alarm went off and had to go to docs at eight for routine appt - probably stinking of alcohol :o

Am thoroughly p*ssed off - why do I do it????????????????? seems like a great idea at the time :o:o:o

Hope everyone else managed to stay on the straight and narrow

    AFD 1 again for me - here I go again:rolleyes: ......
