Can I join in please or am I too late?
I don't actually buy the 'demon drink' but my BF does and to be quite frank, I'm sick of it, and I'm sure it is sick of me as it's making my face look 'too' lived in! I've always been lucky in looking years younger than I am, so if that isn't motivation than I know not what is!;)
My BF drinks every day and that concerns me, and him, so if you guys have any tips on helping him, I'd be very grateful. I'm sure there will be guidlines on this thread which I am about to read through, as I've only just read the last 2 pages.Living a frugal retirement without treading on the planet :T

Hi, I have similar problem,I used to have a bottle of wine friday/sat when seperated, but now back with hubby who also drinks everyday(last night cos I had a drink, he went out to buy himself more.) Anyway I find I am drinking more then resenting him! Tonight I was supposed to be going to a friend's party but now can't go cos he is working early morning and I was going to stay over, as no money to get taxi back. So going to try not to purchase alcohol today. It is hubby's only day off today, but know he won't want to do anything as too hung over and he will get annoyed at the kids. We also have money worries which he bury's head in sand about!(doesn't help). So I am all for advise to.Grocery challenge june £300/ £211-50.

hello jacks - good luck with the "session!" Welcome newbies - people always welcome!
As for advice on OH/BF's I think my advice would have to be to lead by example! You do your bit & hopefully they will follow when they see how much healthier you feel & better you look! You could gently say how worried you are if thats the case but nagging generally has the opposite effect! What about looking up your allowed limits & exclaiming how surprised you are at how little you get...all innocently of course!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Hello everyone.
I agree with Insearchofme regarding OH/BF.
My OH also drinks everyday.(I am amazed how many people do this.I thought it was only us.)
But since I have cut down/stopped for 18 days, and mentioned how concerned I was, he has also cut down alot.
He can drink a bottle of whisky over two nights sometimes but now only has a couple of cans if I dont have a drink.
Also, I found we would fight more if I had too much to drink, as I would pick fault with him all the time. Can never remember if its me who starts it or him!!!!!
Anyway, off on hols for 25th wedding anniversary on Monday, so not doing too bad.
Will have to lead by example this week I think.Maybe just a coupe of glasses of wine with evening meal, and champagne on Wednesday:beer:
Good luck for the weekend everyone.

Morning all,
Day 4 for me today and I feel like I've got a serious hangover todayI've even got the shakes so hopefully by the end of the day I will be truely rid of any alcohol effects in my body, it takes 4 days to get rid of it out of your system. If I don't feel better tomorrow, then maybe I'm sleep drinking  :rotfl:

Ok, so I didn't do so well on day 4
But this is not such a bad thing....hear me out on this ...- I hated myself after I'd bought beer yesterday cos I was proud of being at day 4
- I didn't enjoy the taste all that much
- Didn't eat any of the curry that I was looking forward to making cos as soon as alcohol passes my lips I'm not hungry anymore
- Didn't watch second Corrie cos drinking makes me sleepy so I don't know what happened
- Had a row with OH cos I didn't want to watch a film that we'd been looking forward to (mainly cos I knew I'd probably fall asleep)
- Went to bed at 9.50pm ON A FRIDAY NIGHT  after having a row with OH (again) cos apparently I always sleep (this is usually cos I've normally had a drink)
- Spent tons of quality time with the kids
- Enjoyed kids bath and bedtime more
- Cooked and ate a decent meal
- Got all my stuff (ie kids and my clothes, bags etc) ready for the next morning so there's not so much of a rush
- Spent more time with OH (albeit in front of the telly)
- Spent more time on the computer and caught up with a few surveys so earnt some money to boot!
- Went to bed without ringing in my ears (didn't know I have ringing in my ears till I went to bed sober and didn't!)
- Woke up feeling fresh and with it
I shall have a read of this list later today when the beer bell goes (maybe I should get retrained like Pavlov's dogs :rotfl:)
How's everyone else this dark and murky morning?DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Well done for all you've achieved so far Jo!
I did have a coupe of glasses last night - feeling so proud of myself though as stuck to 2 and went to bed, whereas I KNOW a month or two ago I would have finished the bottle, embarrassed myself and probably found more alcohol to drink. I am really pleased of how I'm going - taking 4 weeks off the drink really helped and now I am learning (slowly!!) how to stop and be sensible. Managed it on a night out last week too - had maybe 4 glasses wine (not much for me on a night out honest!!) and then went on to red bull. Felt so much more in control etc.
