Lines out and ready and waiting for anyone to grab hold of.Its a bit lonely up here ,not too many on at the moment.LOL:D :D:D

Still here and reveling in the new found sobriety.

I Can't believe how different things appear without any beer goggles on.

I originally thought I would go without the drink for a couple of weeks just to give the body a rest but I think I may try and stay aboard for a good while yet.

I'm actually quite enjoying not having the headaches and the constant tiredness. Also, several people have mentioned how well I look at the moment.

I still get the pains in my side which is a bit worrying, so that's another good reason to keep up with those damn horses.

Had some tricky moments, been to a couple of gigs and plenty of pub time over Friday and Saturday. It hasn't been the not drinking which has been the hardest, it's been the reaction of my friends when I order lime and sodas. I feel I have to make up some excuse....."up early in the morning, antibiotics", or whatever I can think of!

Took some customers to Wimbledon yesterday.......lovely wine, Pimms, bucks fizz and all of it free. I was constantly pressured into joining in but I kept saying I was driving which eventually did the trick.

AFD 8 now and the next big challenge is a family and friends camping trip to Dorset at the end of the month. These are always wild alcaholic extravaganzas but for the first time ever I'm going to try and get through one without a drop.

Good luck to all, and thanks for all the anecdotes........they really do help.

Brilliant- well done everyone- whichever stage you are at- oohh and I've been through some stages in my time...no more sobbing into my pint on my own for me...I might have turned 40 this week (dear god where did all the time go?) - but I didn't touch a drop- asked everyone to buy me voulchers for my local guitar shop and have got some brilliant new music, a mic and a new twelve string- dosen't get much better than that- neighbours are battening down the hatches as I crank up the amp, new gain/reverb pedal at the ready- will do a those were the days my friends to keep me on the straight and narrow.

Hello everyone. I've been lurking for a while and feel it's time I can join in, hope that's ok with you all.
I've been drinking for over 30 years and at the turn of the year reached a pretty bad place. I got up one morning and thought I can't go on like this so, after several years of thinking I should get help, I rang the emergency doctors. I knew if I didn't do something that day I'd probably wimp out again.
Anyway, to cut a long story short I ended up being referred to a local alcohol centre. It was the last thing I wanted to do, tell someone everything, but I knew it was the only way I had any chance to turn things around. After several horrible weeks of crying during the entire session and feeling guilty and ashamed I gradually started beginning to deal with things a bit better and today I'm on my 2nd AF day in a row. I can't remember the last time I did that but it was a long time ago!
Anyway, I'm nowhere near out of the woods yet but I'm beginning to understand how I got where I was and to get some control over what I'm doing so that I'm able to get by on reducing amounts which is a huge way forward for me. My plan is AF by the end of the year. Anyway, just wanted to say hi, I'll drop in again and, to anyone, not sure whether to get help or not, I'd say it was the best decision I've made in years.
