I gave up smoking for 12 weeks last year. Then I dislocated my thumb broke four fingers three toes and two ribs playing rugby, and started again.
Please excuse me while I light up and take a swig out of my wine bottle....:rolleyes:To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0 -
One of the biggest pitfalls I found was how good you feel after 3-4 days without a drink-full of energy, positive, healthy, eating propperly etc-then you say to yourself, well I feel great, I'll just have a couple and downhill you go......you have to keep reminding yourself the fact that you feel great is directly related to not drinking.
This is possibly the most important piece of advice you need when you have a drink problem and trying to abstain. I really literally can't tell you how many times I've stopped and then started again a few days later because I feel so amazing, it's like I've got to reward myself, or that I'm trying to convince myself that I really didn't have a problem in the first place if I've managed to abstain for 48 hours
Congrats to everyone, espesh WB, I hope you feel amazing this morning and I hope you got some sleep, although I know how hard it is to sleep during the first few days of abstinence, stick with it though
Well done to everyone else, BHB how do you feel just drinking the one beer? Do you feel you need more or is it easy to stop? You are doing great
Anyhoo, here's where I'm at....same place as yesterday morning I'm afraid. But I am in the frame of mind of last Thursday where I've decided I'm just going to stop. I didn't last week cos I got talked out of it by the nurse at the drink n drugs place but she was covering her back and it wouldn't look good if one of their patients walked out of there and decided to stop drinking without them giving that advice about withdrawals, then them having a fit and dropping dead later that night would it. So I'm going to stop today, I've got 2 cans in the kitchen which I'm now going to pour down the sink, I've made a 3 litre bottle of orange squash and just hope to god that the withdrawals don't get me! It's a good day to be doing it as DD1 has her school prom tonight and it's all a bit unsure about the limo she's supposed to be sharing on the way home so I may get a call in the middle of the night saying 'mum, will you pick me up?', so I need to be sober.
So if any of you are a loose end and the computer's on this evening, please pop in and say hello cos I might be glued to the screen :rotfl:

bhb - I had black pudding 2 days running for breakfast (just to ensure entire weekend as bad for me as poss) & I wondered - do you make that yourself as well? Not that I'm asking you to put some in the post, just wondered. I read that you can eat more of a pig than any other animal!
Hi Winebox - well done!
No we don't make our own black pudding as the larger animals are taken to the abattoir to be killed rather than do it ourselves and collect 'all the bits' (I hope you are all enjoying your sausages for breakfast :rotfl:) . If we collected the blood to make black pudding we would then have to comply with yet another load of regulations. If it wasn't for these we would do all the 'business' ourselves.
I'm not sure that your quote is strictly correct - in that in this country we eat more of the pig than any other animal in that every last squidgy bit and minced up eyeball goes into sausages! Whereas, say with beef, there are again more regulations as to which parts you can eat and which part has to be disposed of at the abattoir.:D:D:D:D Enjoy your breakfast everyone
:D:D:D:D:D
:D:D:D:D:D Hope you are not tooo hung over

Thanks Jo. Yep feel much better for having 1 than 4. But felt much better having none.
I purposefully have only been buying one - which did relax me, but felt like another one as soon as I finished it. But it wasn't that bad that I went out and got one. In fact Mrs BHB went to Somerfields last night after I had finished the bottle and I didn't ask her to get me another - so I guess thats major progress.
I might just plod on like this for a week and then perhaps cut down to a 500ml bottle instead of a 660ml and see how we go, but only buy one when I feel I 'have' to and not when I don't ..... if you see what I mean.
Hope your day gets better.

Morning all :hello: :hello:
Well done Winebox. Its really good that your OH didnt encourage you.Did he still have wine himself? I find it really hard sometimes because even though my DH encourages me not to drink and says good things about how much nicer I am since not drinking he will insist on drinking everyday himself.(Although he isnt a nasty drunk, which I usually was).:o
JO.Good luck for today.I am usually about after my noon shift later so will pop in to see how you are doing.Just keep thinking, you may have to be a taxi driver tonight and your kids need you sober. You would never forgive yourself..............
Well done BHB on managing to cut down.I wish I could but I know one would mean the start of the slippery slope again for me.
Have a good day everyone.Hope the sun shines for you.

I knew there was a reason I wasn't keen on sausages!
Well I was really suffering last night with my time of the month and felt really agitated (I used to be a lot worse each month and used to attack my husband but thats another story!:o ) and I knew a drink would calm me down and relax me but I managed not to have one and went to bed early. I feel more awake and ready to face the day this morning. I would be so fuzzy headed if I had given in last night!
Well done, Jo, for pouring your can down the sink!
eselt, I know what you mean when you watch drunken people out of control. Very scary!0 -
Morning all,
Am busy at work so just a quickie to say well done to everyone!! we all seem to be on the straight and narrow :T  Day 3 again for me
Catch up with you all later!0 -
Morning all, am at work so can't be toooo long, am so glad i popped in here this morning, thanks all of you for all the positive feedback it has really given me a lift. Odd night - not so much sweet dreams as WEIRD ones, swear I did not sleep for more that 15 mins at a stretch (got up at one point thinking it must be morning & it was only 1.30 had already woken up loads of times) but don't feel too bad now I've had 3 hours to come round!
Also THANK YOU for the comments re feeling so good after 3 or 4 days that you start all over again, this is exactly what I do every time. In fact it's usually after the one day!! So I really must remind myself why I do feel better etc etc. Not going anywhere today so nobody to lead me astray. I was lucky with OH last night - he is usually quite naughty at pushing me to have a drink even when I've got the car with me although he's careful himself!!
bhb, thanks but I must also remind myself not to question food production with you ever again.:rotfl:
Hope you all have a good day - lovely weather but today only methinks. Catch ya later.0 -
Just a quickie...
I thought I had 2 cans in the kitchen but then I found another one hidden
I hope there's no more :undecided
