  • Jo Wishing you all the best with the reduction this week. Did you write down those reasons for the drinking? I've never sat down and thought about the reasons that I drank so much - maybe it's something we could all do with thinking about. I'll give serious consideration to mine and then post them on here.

Bismarck Thankyou for your kind words on this board.......................I feel that your siggy describes you perfectly. Do you still live day to day ie today I'm not gonna drink or do you find you forget all about it?

Elantan I hope you get on well with the book. It saddened me to read in your post about the family who have been affected by alcohol. I think Allen Carr is right when he calls alcohol 'Devastation'

    Mr BHB
I hope the counselling goes well tomorrow.....................just keep to the 2 glasses though....................or I'll hide the battery !! Is it a hydrotherapy pool that you look after? I'm only curious because of the work I do.

Winebox Did you avoid the row? If so, you fared better than me and my OH

Mollypolly and Shopaholic Where are you - how's it going?

ISOM You are so conscientious and thoughtful in asking how others are getting on - how are you doing?

Itmo7 Here's to more than four in June

SamanthaA 25/31..........way to go. Well done.

Beachbeth Glad you didn't enjoy the alcohol...................I found that too after trying 1 glass of wine after about 21 days. Have you finished the book yet? Do you feel different or have a different mindset?

    :T:T:T Here's to us.................blazing a trail through June:T:T:T

    Hi NT
Hide the battery?:eek: ...good job it was only 2 :D

The pool is just a summer term swimming pool in a primary only running for 6 weeks to give the kids a chance to experince it and learn to swim where otherwise they sometimes don't get the chance.

    Best Wishes
    BHB

    Hi Everyone.:hello: :hello: :hello:
I have just been lurking this week as me & DH have both been off work.We have been working really hard in the garden.
DH. decided to put in a water feature, which turned into a pond and is now a river.:rotfl: :rotfl: Got to go to buy some fish tomorrow.
Just about caught up on the posts though and am glad to hear you are all reading Allen Carr.Think I was the first on this thread to mention it.

I am on Day 56 today.Eight whole weeks and feeling great.
I found Becks Non alcoholic beer this weekend and have had some of those.I have really enjoyed them ,but was a little concerned that I may aquire the taste for alcohol again. But No. I am liking the idea that I am drinking but cant possibly get drunk and wake up with a hangover.
That is my fear. The losing control, the not remembering and worst of all,the sick feeling in the morning

Keep up the good work everyone. One day we will be free of this but for now lets all keep posting and keep trying to give up/cut down.I feel I need the support of you all on here.I know I dont have much to offer in return but I love reading everyones stories on here.
    See you later
    Love Mollypollyxxxx:happylove

aww thanks NT...sometimes I feel bad because I feel 've cracked it IYKWIM but dont want to desert pepys because I have...book group tonight and that will be the first drink of alch that I've had since last book group. Havent missed it to be honet and the taste of a becks 0% is enough for me...
Eltan, pleased that youve had a wake up all. Alch does cause devastation in families and as an adult "survivor" I would say that some of the scars and memories still have an impact...ie I still get very nervous when drunk men are around me...cannot erase some images from my childhood and definately have residual "issues" ....Is it worth it? I would say not...
BHB if they cancel again you really should make a formal complaint....not doing so is ack that what they are doing is OK and it definately is NOT ok...part of the journey with drinking is to recognise your value as an individual - something that so many loose because of the worthlessness they feel from drinking...in hort go kick a@@ baby! :)
Molly polly great that you are doing so well...a real encouragement for those who are struggling...
winebox - how you doing after what sounds like a raw weekend?
For those who've had a naff wekend just try & learn from it and move on...for those who abstained well done :)
Bismark, thank you for the continued wise & encouraging pots - they make a huge difference...
Have a good day all...on a course today so w*** but in disguise!!
Thinking that the hot weather will soon be here which is red rag to a bull...possibly time to think up some strategies in advance...

Im glad I found this thread. We are all of the same mindset when it comes to alcohol and no one is going to put you down or act disgusted should you say you have fallen off the wagon!

nearly-there - I have finished the book and I do feel differently about alcohol. I see the shelves of alcohol in the supermarket and now think "yuck" instead of "yum". I shall re-read it and refer back to the book too. One of the reasons I start drinking in the evening is because Im hungry and waiting for my tea to be ready and that first glass staves this off. But I can drink pop or juice instead and it will do the same thing! Im not saying I will never have a drink again but, as others have said before, you can't think too far ahead. Just know that you're not drinking for now.

  • Winebox Thank you so much for this honest post. You're not alone. I was a home-alone drinker. I would say that over the last 18 months I've been suffering with memory loss after drinking................those empty crisp wrappers are such a give away!! I too would get up early and convince myself I was right as rain and set out to prove it by making myself busy and act lively........................guess it was a combination of guilt and the remnants of the alcohol in my body. It was then I started to wake up to the fact that I was addicted to alcohol. I then spent the last 12 months trying to give up, but found I couldn't. If I did abstain, then I found that I wanted a drink twice as badly..................couldn't wait til the evening and then asking myself if 6:30 was too early to crack open a bottle........................then numbness of the brain..........................sheer bliss !! :o
I found the Allen Carr book so helpful................gave up straightaway and find that I no longer crave a drink.....................can't believe it was so instantaneous. I wish you the very best with the Allen Carr book. Big hugs xx

I hope my book hurries up and arrives if that is the effect it has!! :T well done you for giving up!

    Good post Jo,

It's good in a way that you've got measurable targets to aim for....I wish you all the very best with this.

I have to my horror just worked out that I drink at least 70 units a week  that is five times the recommended amount OMG

I have been actively avoiding this thread over the weekend as I have done really badly and had alcohol every day, I had Thurs/Friday hols from work which just gave me licence to drink!! I really really want to cut down on my intake I just cannot seem to do it, I feel terrible today, not hungover as I 'only' had a couple of pints of cider but just feel so guilty and annoyed with myself - why can't I do this?:cry: I really think I may need some professional help but I don't know where to start?
