In fact I popped over to look for recipes for it! So I'll go and carry on looking. Good luck buying a new one.
Hi nixinixi,
You'll find lots of recipes here: The Complete Slow Cooker Collection

I've got one of these from Asda but mine is white:

I've put my big slow cooker in the cupboard under the stairs because I use this little one so much. It's perfect for 2-3 people.Dum Spiro Spero0 -
Best place is to have a look around a bootsale which should be starting soon often you can get one of the older ones there when folk are 'disposing' of Grandma's stuff0

Thanks everybody.
Angeltreats - I will regsiter for Freecycle.
Nixinixi - you lucky person - if you decide you don't like it, I'd be happy to take it off your hands.
Pinkwinged - thanks, I've had a look through the more recent posts.
Anguk - that looks good, it's similar to one I've seen in Argos, I might go a mooch through Currys and Co-op tomorrow to get an idea of sizes.
JackieO - thanks, I've briefed my family to keep an eye out for one on car boots. I did actually see one which looked in pretty good nick a coupe of years ago - but I didn't need it then. :mad:0 -
I've got an old slow cooker with the brown ceramic insert. It has only one setting (on) and I use it to make soup, stews, casseroles and anything else that I think that it'll cook nicely.
I admire the new posh shiny ones but will keep my original one till it decides to retire." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

I'll bear it in mind Pollycat but at the moment I do like it, can make a fab bolognaise in it!! :rotfl: Off to look at that recipe thread to find out lots more I could do!!Life is a work in progress0 -
I feel for you pollycat. OH broke the ceramic bowl to my old one a few years ago and I finally got round to getting a new one last year. It is nowhere near as good as my old one, how I pine.
Looking out at boot sales sounds like a good idea, think I'll try this, see if I can pick up an old dinosaur!0 -
Sorry for your loss Pollycat, I would be devastated if mine died, its my major appliance nowadays! hope you find a great replacement.Clearing the junk to travel light

I thought I would add a NOT to buy to this thread. I've just returned a Crockpot branded slow cooker to Tesco today. Used it for the first time this morning to cook a beef casserole and it was practically boiling the liquid even on the low setting. The casserole was cooked in about two hours - not exactly slow cooking! It had also taken me nearly three hours using all sorts of products to remove the large label that was stuck onto the outside of it.
This was the 3.5 litre Crockpot slow cooker that Tesco are selling for, I think, £19.99. Definitely one to avoid.

I recently bought (after the demise of my much-loved 36 year old slow cooker) the Cookworks round 3.5 litre slow cooker from Argos.
I wanted this one as it was a deep bowl.
It doesn't cook as well as my old one as Pink-winged and I discussed earlier.Pink-winged wrote: »Hi pollycat,
I agree with you, the older slow cookers were much slower and way better than the more modern ones on sale at the moment. My (25 year old) tower slow cooker is much better than my two year old morphy richards one which cooks too quickly in my opinion. Even though I smashed the lid a couple of years ago and have to use an upturned plate instead, I prefer to use it if I'm making something without potatoes where I don't need the 6.5ltr capacity.
My old one would cook stews/casseroles in 10-12 hours on 'LOW' - great for when I was out at work.
The new one cooks Braised Brisket with Vegetables in 6-8 hours on 'HIGH' and 3-5 hours on 'LOW' - as you say it's not exactly slow cooking.0
