I've got the 1.5 litre one which is brilliant but its just me, so I think you'd be better off going for a larger one.

I have a 3.5L and it is enough to make sauce chilli, bolognese etc, for up to 8 people, an extra amount can be frozen. I make the pasta separately of course, same goes for stews, I do the potatoes separately. I got a 6.5 L one for a present and use it only for very large gammon joints or if I am having a big crowd over and want to make a chilli for 16 people. I wouldn't go with the 1.5 Litre. Mine are Morphy Richards and have 3 settings which I find great, Low, Medium and High.

Old age isn't bad when you consider the alternative.

    Hi,
I`ve got the 6.5 litre one and although there are only two of us i half fill if i want to make 4 meals and fill up for more to freeze, i find over cooking is really economical and it`s fab for making your own ready meals to freeze and very MSE as the cooking costs are minimal including only paying for fuel to reheat the Ready meals at a later date.
It`s also good for cooking seperate thing in together for instance i some times cook potatoes seperately in a lidded pyrex dish inside a stew or chilli for a seperate meal.
One thing i intend to use it for is in summer when it`s too hot to have the oven on and because it`s so large i can fit a large chicken or a good size joint inside it with potatoes and still have a reasonably cool kitchen.

I was going to suggest to get the largest one you can afford. It's handy when it comes to cooking large joints of meat for example.

Put it this way, everything you can do in a small SC you can do in a large one, however, there is a ton of stuff you can't do in a small SC that you can do in a larger one.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but am thinking of getting a slow cooker as I have seens some reduced in the sales and am thinking it will really help me to be more organised for tea time.

I was just wondering about size/model, does anyone have a model that they think is fab? or does it not really make any difference...

Also size wise, I am looking at 6.5 ltrs as I want it to be big enough to do whole chicken and also so that I can make large chillis/casseroles etc. and freeze some...but not being that good with size would a 3.5 ltr be enough really?

Just after some comments, sorry if a silly question...

I'm looking at getting one too, and there are loads of threads on here about them and recipes, but i have been told that a medium chicken will fit in a 3.5l one

    Hi Orchid,

I would go for the biggest slow cooker that you have room for. I bought the 6.5ltr morphy richards earlier this year and I'm very pleased with it...the MR comes with a two year guarantee and their customer service is great if you have any problems.

There was a thread on this a couple of days ago that should help so I'll merge your thread with it. In that thread there is a link to an older thread on the same topic.

For recommendations on which model to buy, this thread might help:

It also might be worth a look in The Complete Slow Cooker Collection

I can't believe I couldn't find this thread when I searched!! Thanks for the replies, I hadn't thought about worktop space (which is at a minimum in my house) so think I will go for a 3.5l one as it seems it is large enough to get 2 meals out of at least..

    Thanks
