phone no porting costs?

Hi guys

I had an orange phone both PAYG and contracts for about 6/7 years, in Nov I changed to O2 and kept my number, I've just been billed £9.64 from orange for porting the number. Can they do this? as no mention of a charge was made when I asked for the PAC code. I'm pretty !!!!ed off surely giving the number away doesn't cost that much.

ask to speak to a manager and have them explain the cost, i didnt think the were allowed as its anti competative
  • cheers, will have to wait till Monday, tried calling and couldn't get through then finally got a message saying that department was shut.

I can't believe I've only just got the bill today for charges from early Dec.
  • I'm still baffled. I phone to cancel the contract 30 days ahead as required, then called later asking for the PAC code. On my Bill I have minus charges for the line rental (as I paid ahead) and the PAC as a separate charge is says
Adjustments- Port out Termination 09 Dec- £9.64

You can't cancel your account AND request your PAC at the same time. Requesting a PAC and not using it will not close your account after 30 days whereas a cancellation request will. The 30 days notice are from when you requested your PAC. Presumably they refunded any future line rental you have paid and then charge you any line rental charges between the port out date and the end of the 30 days.
  • anyway finally got throught to orange and now they are giving me the run-a-round. they said all compainies charge to port out, and I said it's anti competitive and anyhoo you didn't tell me about the charge- the boy I was speaking to got flustered and just went I can't deal with it you need to contact a different department and gave me another number to call (150)
So tried them and got no where- so letters are coming next, however they've passed the porting charge onto the debt collectors- which I'm not too happy about since I only recieved the bill for it on Saturday- cleverly they put my details to debt collectors before I got the bill.

Not really sure where to go now, I'm not sure its worth fighting and getting items put on my credit file over a tenner.

Pay what you owe. You seem to be suffering from word blindness. The charge has been explained to you and you have even thanked dduk for the relevant links but obviously not read or understood the information!
