Still seems like a risky prospect anyway for all the reasons above. Never mind fake I'd be worried about getting ANYTHING. Paypal refunds only work if the seller keeps enough funds available in their account, that's the flaw in the paypal system.
If you want to make sure you are doubly covered when paying with paypal, make sure that you pay by credit card and not with any residual funds or bank transfer.
That way if paypal mess you around you can claim your money back from the credit card company.

But it'd still be a real hassle to sort things out especially if they actually sent you the fakes. Not quite as simple as not receiving anything. Of course it's better to use the credit card but it's even better not to use obvious sites like this at all. Even credit card companies can dispute your claims and make it difficult for you to get your money "back".

stupidly, i've just ordered a pair.

I was under the impression PayPal regulated all people who take payments via their system.

    Am i wrong?

Do i now have to wait for 3 weeks to find out if i've been scammed?

Paypal don't bother to run any proper checks on sellers using their service.

Obviously prevention is better than cure, and I certainly wouldn't advocate risking your money on a dubious ebay purchase... but for reference, the safest way to pay with paypal is to fund the payment with a credit card. If something goes wrong, in the relatively unlikely event of paypal failing to secure your refund, you can take it up with your credit card provider, who will.

  • They are now - but it's pretty obvious from what everyone else has been saying that it was a scam. But people may still click on just the first page and not bother to read all the posts. Also by now saying that they think it's a scam it reinforces them if they pop up another topic with 'oh look at this new el cheapo site...'

    maybe I'm just cynical

Hey Blacksheep, I put the post up. The last thing I want to do is direct people to a scam site. Still finding my way on the MSE forums and I'm wondering if there's a way to change the title of the thread?

Just as an update on Shure, I received my replacement earphones yesterday. I sent my damaged earphones on 1 March and they dispatched the replacements on 4 March. However, due to a comedy of errors by Parcelforce, I only received them (at a different address) on 28 March.

Want to make the point that Shure offered excellent help throughout the whole ordeal and it was not their fault. My advice to anyone looking to buy new Shure earphones to replace their damaged ones is ring Shure Distribution first.
  • I bought from Mobile-Blue before I read these posts, and have to admit to probably having been conned. I always look for reviews before buying from a new supplier, but as I couldn't find anything on Mobile-Blue and wasn't spending a lot of money decided to take the risk. What turned up was an unmarked heat sealed plastic packet containing Sennheiser CX400 earphones, but not the advertised extension cable etc . I immediately smelt a rat and contacted the manufacturer and the supplier. Sennheiser confirmed the earphones were probably counterfeit. Mobile-Blue agreed to refund my money, but I'd have probably lost out on the postage both ways. I decided in the end to open the package and trying the earphones. The quality is better than that of those included with my Archos MP4 player, and they weren't at all bad compared with my Vivanco headphones. So I decided to keep the Mobile-Blue phones.

It is quite possible that the phones are leakage from a Chinese factory that manufactures for Sennheiser. I have no way of knowing without a legitimate pair to compare against.

Anyway my advice to anyone who is listening is: DON'T BUY FROM MOBILE-BLUE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. :embarasse

  • Fortunately i got to this website right after I made a purchase for the Sennhieser PX 100 for mobile-blue.com. I ensured that paypal had a link to this website as a backup and also wrote to Sennhieserusa.com to ensure the admin of mobile-blue takes off all Sennhieser from his website.

Not only did i open a dispute with the seller giving this websites link to prove that he sells fake products but escalated to paypal too. After the escalation to Paypal i got an immediate refund from the admin and he cancelled my order in just a couple of hours. I hope people dont get conned buy such websites anymore. I've just decided to buy a brand new pair of these headphones and pay for it full.:T

Some of these chines clones of well known products are very hard to distingush from the genuine ones . most of them are second line or backdoor products .
You might not tell the difference for a few months until bits start dropping off .

Or you notice that compared to the branded ones the logo is not as right as it should be .
    Caveat Ebay ???

That's why its important to use the Resolution Centre on Paypal if you have a problem with a Trader and fake goods.

Contrary to popular belief, you can't claim your money back for poor quality goods
As stated in their User Agreement, PayPal’s Buyer Complaint Policy only applies to the delivery of goods, not to disputes about the attributes or quality of the goods received.

However, if you do start a dispute, PAYPAL will note your claim in the seller's record.
The seller's account privileges will be limited if excessive complaints are received.

Then why do paypal state: When an item is not received or differs significantly from its description, you can rely on our Buyer Complaint Policy

I'd say receiving fake goods comes under differing significantly from its description.
