What do women pay more for?

Women pay more for clothes & shoes, partly because they are willing to pay more for clothes & shoes.

I think it was which that had cars checked out and then taken to a garage for service/mot first by men and then by women. Guess who were charged more?

If we need anything in the house doing, I insist on DH being here. He knows no more than I do about getting a new bathroom but they refused to install a sink where I wanted it until he turned up. (All I wanted was the basin to be installed so that the door could open fully and it was right near the pipework, but that was fiddly for them.)

It is wrong to charge different amounts for men and women to get into anywhere. I am right behind OP and I hope he gets it changed.

Discrimination is discrimination. It makes it easy to say, 'well, men get charged more here, women pay more there so it works out'. Or, 'It's not important,' implying that other discrimination is not important. No discrimination is justified, because once you let one bit slip by it is easy to nod at other, bigger examples of discrimination.

    I agree totally, hev.

Out of interest, my wife and I have an alternative method of getting the quotes down for workmen.

I call them up and discuss what we want doing and get the quotes. This way we hopefully get the best quote.

Then when we choose what we want doing, my wife calls them up and puts on her sweetest voice and says they get the job if they knock 5% off. Works every time!

what about pay - up until dec'07, i was doing exactly the same job as my colleague, had even been there longer, and he was stil earning £2000 a year more than me.

That doesn't entitle you to cheaper entry to Chicago rock, it does however entitle you to take your employer to an employment tribunal as you should get equal pay for equal work or work of equal value.
Its perfectly fine to offer these sorts of deals
On what level is it fine? they're illegal.
Put simply is £1 worth getting all het up about and potentially runing it for others who may be on low incomes who need these offers to go out ? No.

And what of men who are on low incomes but need these sort of offers to go out?

Not for the same shoes and clothes though!

It's blatant discrimination, and illegal. Just because it maybe widely practised doesn't validate it in any way. If all the pubs and clubs served alcohol to under 18s, would that somehow make it legal and ok to do so???

Surely its just a promotion to attract more females, i dont have a problem with it but then i wouldnt pay to get in,

Calling it a 'promotion' does not get around the Sex Discrimination act. Even though it's been in force for over 27 years, some people still don't understand it.

yes, it's just a promotion to attract more females but whether you have a problem with it or not, it is still illegal. I agree though, I wouldn't want to pay to get in either.

It depends - it's a funny old world - and larger size glam shoes are even more expensive!

I still think it's wrong that women tennis players get paid the same as men despite only playing best of three instead of best of 5 sets.
