LOL Martin, you have a right bee in your bonnet over this one dont you? :)

It does concern me that the relevant authorities have important issues to look at, and if anyone spends more than five minutes looking into why Martin has to pay an extra £1 to get into his local bar I would consider it an embarrassing waste of taxpayers money!

    Thats right.

I thought I'd see how far I'd get with this one, just as a matter of interest. I'd be surprised if I get anywhere (although this shouldn't be the case) but even if this Chicago Rock were forced to withdraw their offer that would be something.

I've emailed my Local Chicago with that web link and my own comments. I've emailed the Equal Opportunities Commission from within that web link.

    I've emailed them:- http://www.ogc.gov.uk/index.asp

    I've emailed them:-http://www.equalityhumanrights.com/en/Pages/Contactus.aspx

    I've emailed them:- http://www.oft.gov.uk/

I'm trying to find an email address for Chicago Rock head office but cant find it.

Now i've emailed the ASA as well.

If I even get any answers back I'll put them on here.

It may be beneficial if others email the above as well.
wow this is 1 to defo keep check on.

    u gonna sue?!

btw if it was a 'guys nite' theme would u still be complaining?? u should be thankful they even letting u in there. they coulda easily done a 'strictly girls only' pampering theme nite.

    Could they?

And would the women who are not complaining on the thread be complaining if it was more for women than men? And if it was free for men but £5 for women, how many moneysavers would find that objectionable? or if it was £10 or £20 or £50?

Would women vote for this kind of discrimination? Surely Emily Pankhurst must be spinning in her grave?

Or is this a chance to subjugate women all over again?

"Vote for me, for the right to charge men more than women for the same service (legislation may be applied differentially to the stated grouping)."

    Nope, that would be discrimination.

every bar and club does things like this!
    free cloakroom for chicks...
    free entrance for chicks...
    no all male parties...
guys only allowed in if with a chick...
guys told entrance is say £10 when really its £7...

when u go on holiday to 18-30 holidays and u pay to go on the bar crawl/boat trip, e.t.c, do u think everyone pays the same amount?! HELL NO! the guys are told its more expensive... they ALWAYS pay more than girls. its not a case of girls getting a discount its a case of guys are lied too. groups of girls that go with guys unfortunately pay the guy rate...

same in the bars... girls pay 5 euro a drink with more alcohol and free shots and guys pay 6 with less alcohol and maybe 1 free shot... and ur none the wiser until u later see the price list...

be FORREAL.... would u find urself at the choc fountain?? sippin on sparkling wine (i guarantee it wont be champagne) and sippin in cocktails??? the gifts will be trash like dress up hats n stuff... nothing of selling value.

its a chick pampering nite while males benefit from the cheap drinks while there...

Not one of the bars or clubs i go to does anything like this. I used to see it happening years ago but perhaps more awareness of the act has phased it out. Clubs can refuse entry to a group of males yes, but if the only reason is that they are males and there is not a female amongst their group then that's unlawful.

As for paying for things on holiday, other countries tend not to be governed by the terms of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975.

do u say the same about 'female only' gyms?? discrimination?!
    'female only' car insurance???
female only bar staff?! boys mainly on the floor?

what makes u SO SURE that bars n clubs u dont go to scam u?? drinks/entrance/cloakroom are always more expensive for males. they tell u 1 thing when its another and how do u prove otherwise?!. ud only be able to know fully how much x drink is when u look at the pricelist on the wall, which ull never see upclose as its in the staff area... ie, behind the bar.

clubs nowadays DO NOT let in groups of males whether its 3 or 8. unless theres a few chicks to pair each one up with they wont get in together. they usually have to find all girl groups to link up with OR split into groups of 2 and move far away from each other. Thats the only way they will get in. bars are less strict but its best not to go in a group of all males unless u know staff and/or door members. u cant do anything about it. the door people will make up anyfin on the spot if challenged. no point in arguing... u wont win and u have no proof of ur allegation.

u have no proof of ur allegation

So can i ask then, whats your proof of what your saying being correct?

The reason they dont let big groups of lads in is incase there is any trouble.

Female only car insurance is questionable in that the campaigns are directed only at females, however none of these companies are exclusively female, in fact when my sister attempted tog et insurance from one of them she was asked "Does your father drive? If you add him as a secondary driver it will lower your policy greatly."

The reason I'm so sure is that first off almost everywhere has the cloakroom price stated outside it. Entrance prices can generally be found on flyers and finally I'm very good at listening and can hear the price a girl 6 or so places ahead in a queue gets charged.

As for your last paragraph, you seem to be of the impression that if something happens then everyone should just accept it and it's alright. I remember as a teenager everyone having these daft ideas, splitting into small groups and pairing up but within a few years we got sick of it and realised the stupidity, now no matter where i'm going we go in the group we are going with, no rubbish about mixing the group, and guess what? I've never been refused entry anywhere.

I don't want to disagree with you since i also disagree with Chuckley but more because I think his/her take on the reality of these situations is somewhat outdated or imagined but Gyms tend not to be private members clubs, they may claim to be, but the fact practically anyone can walk in and join through paying a fee is contrary to the diea of a private members club which tends to involve some sort of selection or nomination to join process.
