Why so much hatred for 4x4's & SUV's?

Differnce is the Ford Fiesta is much much more eco freindly than the lotus elise.
The Lotus Elise is 850KG whereas a Fiesta will be 1050KG, so it already has to do 23% more work to match the Elise. The current Fiesta has a front area that's probably 50% larger than the Elise, so once again, drag forces will be a decent percentage higher.Happy chappy0 -
This is pointless, cos you are making excuse after excuse you just did it again, that dont change why most people dont like 4x4s.
Yours might be smaller than most medium to large cars but most 4x4s have a much higher front contact area making them dangerous to other road users and pedestrians. FACT
Thank you, so your opinion that you don't like them is "because they are dangerous to other road users and pedestrians."0 -
I like big cars - I don't have one and I don't have anything against them either. I just sold my focus because it was on a high tax bracket - a Cayenne we had in last month was less in road tax! Its all this emissions malarkey which I'm beginning to wonder is it all a con? Global warming seems far away when I'm scraping ice off my windows.........
I think the prejudice comes from the 'mum brigade', who seem not only to not be able to drive them very well, but also talk on their mobiles at the same time, appear to have no manners on the road, drive their little precious darlings about a mile to school when walking would be far far healthier...... they are the ones that are getting these big cars a bad name.
I'd love a Land Cruiser - just can't afford oneGenie

Also to be fair most sports cars are much worse Lotus Elise are one of the most economical sports cars you can get, so when I was genralizing of a sports car I ment more like a Porsche or BMW M3 ect ect which have CO2 output of over 300g/km
It makes me laugh how defensive and people get when it comes to talking about cars and the way they drive them lol. I aint really that bothered what you do to be honest, I have no kids to worry about and dont plan on having any, but if your asking why people dont like something then I have answered your questions.
I have opinions about these matters and is why I have commented and explained them but I really aint gonna get worked up about something like this cos it makes little to no difference to me.Thank you, so your opinion that you don't like them is "because they are dangerous to other road users and pedestrians."
I think I have made my point quite clear by now, I dont like them cos I see no need for the average person to use something which is more dangerous to other and is not eco freindly. If you have a use for it then cool but otherwise I dont get why you would want something that is more likely to kill people.0 -

A lot of mums who drive their kids to school do so because they then drive straight on to work & without driving the kids to school they wouldn't make it to work on time.
House prices are way in excess 3 (& the rest:rolleyes: ) x the average wage in nearly every area & so the majority of families don't have the luxury of a SAHM, they have to keep working to pay the bills.
I think this is why loads of kids are driven to school. So its not 4x4s that are the problem, but that schools were never (in the UK) designed for car drop off & collection (unlike the US if the TV is anything to go by).
Using a mobile in a car without handfree or bluetooth is just wrong & I see loads of drivers doing so, drivers of all types of cars.
I don't like land cruisers, far too big for me. But if they still made 3 door RAV's that would be my first choice, I don't know why they got rid of them.0 -
I drive a 4x4.
I like my 4x4.
I don't care what anyone else thinks, it's mine and it's paid for.
It's taxed, tested and insured.
I can get loads of things in it.
I can find it in car parks.
I love the higher driving position.
There are some 'ordinary' cars out there that exceed my 4x4s CO2 emission.
I am more concerned with the number of people driving uninsured, untaxed, unroadworthy vehicles. Some of them unlicensed.
At the end of the day it's a free country............isn't it?0 -

Its the others that stand around for ages with their vehicles blocking the roads while they have their morning chat - which is always worse on a Monday. And the others that are rushing back for daytime TV - I pass four schools on my route to work, I see the same ones pretty much every day and most of them could walk it there and back. There are a few of my neighbours too who don't work and literally drive round the block to drop the kids off. And we wonder why children are obese these days.....
I agree - shame about the RAV - but the four door one is nice.Genie

All I here in that is me, me , me prooving my point these people are selfish.
I do agree with the comment of "I am more concerned with the number of people driving uninsured, untaxed, unroadworthy vehicles. Some of them unlicensed." I am too but that dont take away the point your also doing something which is endagering other peoples lives.
As for its a free country erm not really, not in the sence you mean or I would be able to take drugs witout getting arrested. I would be able to use prostitues if I wanted (Not that I would want to erw) ect ect.
Free country dont mean you can literally do as you please, if it is something which endangers other people then should there not be a law against it?
When I was taking drugs I was not harming anybody but myself I paid for the drugs by working a normal everyday job yet I get arrested for possesion of the drugs, your theory of its a free country would me I should be able to take drugs legally, do you agree?
I should be able to do anything I want with your theory of its a free country, no?0 -

You know, we might actually take heed of what you are saying and we might even seriously consider your views, IF - they weren't dished out in the most unsavoury sarcastic way. Its not an endearing trait you know.
No one loves a smart a**e - especially one who thinks they are. Its not clever nor is it witty.Genie
