I phoned back and asked to be transferred to the cancellations. And this time they gave me free Sky Sports for a year. :)

    Thanks a lot

I've just tried to strong arm Sky into matching the NTL package (Sky Sports free for 12 months) but the best they could offer was a 20% (£7.20 a month) discount for the year. Saving of £86 for year against the NTL saving of £162 - no brainer.

Have booked the NTL engineer (I already had their phone package) for next week and phoned Sky to cancel.

I guess it the luck of the draw if you get it or not, try again and see if you get it because most people here are getting it for free.

Used this deal as leverage with Sky. Didn't want NTL as we get free BT Line rental (hubbys an engineer on callout). We cancelled the Sky Sports at the end of the Football season and was going to call and get it back. Instead, called Sky and told them wanted to cancel completely as NTL are offering free Sports for a year. After a bit of negotiation!!! managed to get basic package plus sports half price for 3months - cheaper than what I was paying for basic package alone.

Phoned the usual ntl "2000" number & was told I was eligible but would have to change my phone package. I complained that the ntl flyer was misleading as there was no phone charge comparison and the new package would cost me more! She said I would need to contact sales (couldnt put me through) to complain about the flyer who said try customer services as they could bend the rules (fellow MSE addict?). He put me through & they gave me free SS for a year - no phone package, nothing - result!!!
My views are irrelevant - censorship is alive & well!
  • We are with telewest as we live in a non NTL area (currently got all services, tv package, phone and internet). I've just spokent to them and they are not offering this to existing customers - how unfair is that? If NTL are offering it to existing customers then surely telewest should be as well?

I'm not happy :( but unable to do anything about it as we have no option but to use Telewest.

I thought the same when I saw the flyer in a magazine. It looks a great deal. Shame Telewest can't provide such a good deal too - although I've heard that the two companies are 'merging' or that ntl are taking over Telewest (maybe other MSE users will know more?) so maybe we will get deals like that too.

    Hi all,
Great thread - thanks to all posters.

Quick question, is everyone who got an "upgrade" an out of contract customer?

I`ve still got 4 months to go on contract. Any point in persisting?

    Well, peeps.

After only picking up this thread today, I logged onto NTL World and checked their package against my existing Sky package.

We currently have the full package from sky for £42 per month. The same package with the free sports channels would cost £35 from NTL for 12 months, and then it would go up to £41.

So, I called Sky, asked them to match this, and they bettered it ... they've given me a 20% discount for the next 12 months, which means I'll now pay £34.

Result? Not half. Thanks everyone. :D

I wasn't out of contract, in fact had only just signed to the Family Pack from the base pack a month previously
