Ebico prices to increase on 1 August
EDIT: THIS IS AN OLD THREAD, DO NOT REALLY KNOW WHY IT WAS RESURRECTED
THE INCREASE DISCUSSED HERE HAPPENED LAST SEPTEMBER 2005
Equipower and Equigas prices are to rise on 1 August.
Electricity is going up by 8.5% (for SWEB area)
Gas is increasing by a whopping 18.5%. (first rise in 20 months)
Only just signed over to them.:(
Everyone is putting their prices up, but 18.5% on gas seems excessive. They have guaranteed the new rates to existing customers andfor at least 12 months and also to anyone that signs up before 1 August. I suppose they can afford to guarantee their prices for 12 months after increasing gas by 18.5%.
Bit fed up as only just agreed my monthly payments. With all the companies upping their prices at different dates by different amounts, it is difficult to know if I have a good deal anymore.

This is the problem with all the companies leapfrogging each other.
Ebico were being 'pushed' like mad by some in this thread.

and bingo 18.5% increase.
It would be OK if we could switch overnight, but we can't. It takes months and is usually accompanied by a load of hassle and then you find you have made a bad choice - again!!0 -
I was hoping to get at least a few weeks on the old tariff. Wouldn't have mind so much if that had happened. You hear about it happening to other people all the time. But 4 days on the old tariff before the new one kicks in? The new increase has only just been announced and is kicking in almost immediately.0

Me too. I moved from EDF who have increased both gas and electricity by 20% so I still might be a few quid in.Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -
I have just checked Ebico website, it doesn't look like they have increased the price, or do they not update the webpage at all?0

hmmm... I have an email from ebico dated February 05 stating "we will give full notice of any price increases". As this thread is the first I've heard I've written back to them stating my disappointment at finding out via MSE. We'll see what happens...

I just rang EBICo before I read this thread, and the lady told me that yes they would be increasing their prices on sept 1st but they had not yet determined what the rise would be.
Where do you get your info Nicholas?0 -

Perhaps they haven't decided yet. Best place to keep an eye on is here:
http://www.ebico.co.uk/news.htm
where they actually say:
We are going to have to review prices this summer and will let all customers know the outcome of this review as soon as we have it.
Seems reasonable to me (as a customer of Ebico).
Also read some of their news items from 2004. Other companies increased their prices and Ebico prices remained unchanged. They are still one of the best prices around.0 -

It was actually from the Ebico website, under the "news" link. Also when you went to the gas calculator, it was already adjusted to 1.94p for 1st August. Under the electricity prices, the SWEB region had increased from 7.67p to 8.34p.
After your post, I checked their website again, and it's as if the increases were never announced. Therefore, I have also rung Ebico, and asked if I was dreaming about the increased prices announcement on their website. I was told that they are trying to "renegotiate" the price with Scottish and Southern and that new increases would take effect on 1st September. The announcement on the website was quickly withdrawn. I was unable to pin her down on this "renegotiation". Just hope that if the increases are different from the ones I saw on their website last week then they will be in our favour.
I also enquired that if you are in the middle of a billing cycle, how do they decide what to bill at the old tariff and what to include on the increased tariff. She said it will be an estimated proportion. Personally, I am not going to take a chance and plan to give meter readings using Southern's e-billing just before the end of August.
Hope this clarifies the matter for Bikeman and anyone else interested.0 -
This is the first I have heard of this also.
Only a matter of time, I suppose.

Oh, I agree. In no way am I slamming ebico, they have been great for me and even with this increase (if the figures are correct) they will still be very competitive... I looked at my last british gas bill, even if the ebico gas price *does* go up 18% they would *still* have been around 10% cheaper than british gas on my final bill and british gas have put their prices up at least once or twice since then!roger56 wrote:Perhaps they haven't decided yet. I got an email back from ebico this morning (see, they do actually respond to email unlike many other companies), they said "Our prices are being reviewed. Any changes will take effect late summer (probably by 1st Sept). All our existing customers will be notified of the changes. You will hear something shortly"
So, we will find out what the position is shortly - as I said though I don't expect to be moving company again for 2 reasons...
1. Their prices will still be very fair in an increasingly expensive market.
2. I like their ethical stance.
