My advice is stick with what you`ve got.
  • Oh right..

I was just looking at RA website and it says they fly to London Gatwick.

And i know they fly from Manchester and assumed that they flew the Manchester to London Gatwick route!

    So the only option is:

    Manchester - Dublin
    Dublin - London Gatwick

Providing i get the right times and date...

Ok i have my answer, im gonna wait until Tuesday and see if i can actually get the date/times to get to London Gatwick from Dublin etc.

If i cant then its a 4 hour wait at Charles De Gaulle in Paris, which cant be too bad as therell be some love in the air there.

What time is the flight leaving LGW??? Reason I ask is because if you attempt Manchester - Dublin - Gatwick, it is a hassle with risks of missing your Dublin - Gatwick or your onward journey from Gatwick if any of the flights get delayed. Remember, Ryanair wont give a damn if you miss Dublin - Gatwick because Manchester - Dublin is delayed or whatever.

Timing wise, it took me good 6 hours or so to get down. Checkin 2 hours before (to be on safe side), Manchester - Dublin (1 hr), connecting time (get ur luggage, through immigration, check-in for your next flight, etc) 2 hours, Dublin - London (1 hour). Oh and the amount of walk you have to do is a lot too. Ryanair operates out of a terminal quite far away from the main terminal - about 20min walk - and thats where you'll be dropped off, and you have to walk to the main terminal to re-check-in, and then walk back to re-board.

Also, if you have luggage (im assuming you will), they will soon bomb up the costs. Remember you have to pay for each luggage and check-in at the airport fee, looking at costs from £15 per leg per person. so the two legs to get down to Gatwick will soon add up to £30 and on and on and on. You should look into trains and see if you can grab a cheap advance ticket - quicker, cheaper and easier.

But if you, like me, are a student wanting to go down to london with just handluggage (and checkin online), then its a smooth journey.

You could always take the train or coach from Manchester down to Gatwick

    Cheers for the response.

Ok train journey from Manchester to Gatwick is a rip off - £100 - 230

I will be taking hand luggage and one medium sized suitcase.

The destination is Catania but i hear that the Palmero Airport isnt too far from there.

So if i was really gonna be a turd i could go:

    Manchester to Dublin
    Dublin to London Standstead
    London Standstead to Palmero

£0.03 plus all the other costs.

But truth be told i cant be bothered with that many RA flights, one is bad enough.

Ok the Gatwick to Catania is defo the best price - £175.00 departing 08:55 29 Feb and returning 08 March.

The problem is getting to Gatwick the super cheapest way.

I wouldnt mind getting a train as long as it was cheap as chips and got me there within good time.

BUT i think my current option is the better one although its a long one:

    1. Manchester to Paris
    2. Paris to Rome
    3. Rome to Catania

    £203.00

Im just hoping the bags can be checked in all the way thru without me having to collect in Paris and re-check in etc.

Plus there should be tasty birds in Paris and Rome,. so i shouldnt be complaining too much.

... and on the Travel board!!!

Does anyone else find that half the fun of travelling MSE style is finding the bargain routes yourself, and not getting others to work it all out for you?!! x
