I was under the impression it was only their retail outlets that were closing but they would still be selling PCs via the net and other means?

My personal opinion is that there are a lot more pc manufacturers with better quality, better specced pcs about than tiny/time, whereby their staff rarely know anything about PCs.

I was always told . Check out the specification of a tiny computer and buy one from some where else as close to that spec as possible because tiny don't have a great reputation for aftersales and customer service

Is Tiny anything to do with Time?

If so, personally I wouldn't buy from them. I got my laptop from them 2 years ago. At the time, I couldn't get any sense from the shop assistants, who simply did not have any knowledge of computers. I did my own research and then bought from them coz, at the time, theirs was the cheapest.

BUT, now, two years on, I am having lots of trouble with niggling things going wrong, because the parts are cheap and nasty. Silly things that don't take much to fix - like the plastic pin holding the power button snapped, so I couldn't turn the machine on. Another time the power lead gave up the ghost. The problem is, often these are non-standard parts. They take time to locate, and are expensive to buy. So the machine is out of action longer than it should be, and costs more to fix.

I am now looking around for a desktop. Obviously I am looking for a good buy, but that doesn't necessarily mean the cheapest model. Reliability is also a priority for me this time round......

  • Time own Tiny, so all effectively fall under the same umbrella.

I had a time laptop a few years ago, and in fairness I was actually quite happy with it for the money paid. At the time, 2 of the 3 I bought developed little problems, but as we wern't far away from their burnley factory, we were able to just pop in and they sorted it there and then - not so sure they would have been so good if we'd had to courier them though.

Theres loads of choice for laptops these days, Dell are probably among the best value and decent build quality.

(This post written on my brand spanking new Inspirion 9300 17" model that arrived yesterday! ;-) LOL)

The fact "The Computer Shop" refuse to do refunds was a bad sign from the start.

    Good riddence to them.

Just heard on Radio Five, now laying off staff and Directors all jumped ship. Going down fast.

  • I said don’t buy Tiny computers? Someone on here said that they are a good company?
Time computers are the same and they will go the same way? Build decent spec computers that don’t break down and your in profit?
Build computers that break down and you loose money and go bankrupt.

I don’t have that problem because I build my own, I sort my problems out myself but its all worth it.

    "Computer firm's future in doubt

There is uncertainty over the future of the UK's largest computer manufacturer, Granville Technology Group.
The Lancashire-based firm behind the Tiny and Time brands has confirmed to the BBC that all of its 78 retail stores have been closed.

All directors except the non-executive chairman have resigned and the firm has begun laying off staff, it said.

Granville chairman Bill Davies said "it could well be the case" that the company is close to collapse. "

Oh they'll be back don't you worry. They've shed another load of warranty liabilities and will be back for a fourth helping.

I ask why trading standards and police forces aren't given powers to stop these people doing this - it is robbery. Paying for a warranty and then not getting it, or a refund, is robbery. I say the shoot to kill policy should be extended to Time and Tiny directors ;)
