Thanks for that imagia-makes interesting reading. I have just emailed the link to anyone that I know who sells on ebay to make them aware of it also.

Does anyone already sell on Tazbar??? Looks quite good, may try using that when I want to sell something! Seems to be alot of items listed on there for sale also.
  • I like how they use an example at the bottom, and if you work it out using the old way, it's 10p cheaper than the new fees.

  • I duno.... i may be the only one who still enjoys selling and buyingon ebay.. i love it! :o

I totally agree, however my gripe is the extortionate fees.

Ebay is close to being the PERFECT money making machine, they control the items being sold, charge for the privilege, charge a commission based on sale value and then even make money out of the payment if paypal is used. all with very very little overhead.

I didnt know there was a boycott of ebay going on this week - I wish I did.

Even so, it hasnt made much difference, considering that EBay chose this week to steathily up their fees.

As has been mentioned, Ebay has no viable competition - the ability to sell your unwanted items to the highest bidder is a great facility - its just the amount being chrged to use the facility has doubled in the past 4 years - considering that Ebay has no "risky" overheads, its win win for them.

Im quite surprised that there has not been some form of Nationwide ban which has hit the headlines to generate national support. A few weeks of no sellers means no buyers means no free money for ebay.:T

The problem is if you read between the lines while it looked like all the sellers were up in arms, actually they weren't. These changes benefit the larger professional seller who will get reduced FVFs and can therefore cut out their competition like us. If you actually look at those who are upset we tend to be smaller sellers who realise that we will no longer be competing on a level playing field, we will still have to conform to all the DSR and other rules yet we will pay significantly higher FVFs than the big boys.

If ebay set out with the intention of losing us smaller sellers then they have achieved that objective. The bigger sellers will remain and turn over more sales as they will have less competion and ebay will get more fees than they currently do with a smaller seller base to have to manage.

Just look at the petition for instance, I signed at around number 14..and that was several hours after it was set up. Even when I last looked it was still in the tens of thousands against a seller base in the mega millions. Yes many of us are terribly upset but we are probably considered neccessary losses by the ebay who don't want us anymore with their new vision.

Ebay will continue to grow and both theirprofits and share proces will continue to increase as a result of these changes. Us smaller sellers may migrate to Tazbar or ebid but I suspect a good few numbers will just give up and do something else instead.

I have tried ebid and will go and look at Tazbar but I might be one of those who chooses to do something else with their time and maybe just keep a small presence on ebay to annoy them.

Another thing that I can't find a link to so is just anecdotal (If anyone has the figures proving or disproving this then a link would be appreciated)... listings have increased in many categories during the strike not decreased. I had not listed but frankly seeing my competitors with increased exposure this week means I am intending to do a bulk upload this evening.

You've summed it up perfectly here. We'll have to wait and see if tazbar and ebid can raise their game to get the traffic that the smaller sellers need, because as far as I can see, eBay sure as hell isn't going to turn around on this.

I also sell on ebay and have done so since 2001. It does get me mad about the high fees, then the paypal fees etc. I tried listing items only allowing people to pay by cheque but it backfired as people want their stuff now.

I have just read the fees comparison table to what it costs before and now, and to me it sounds a bit cheaper with the fvf.

I just listed an item on buy it now for £9.99 and it cost me 40p to list it with a gallery image, before it would have cost me 50p. They say the FVF will be 60p whereas before it cost me 53p, but I have saved 10p on listing it.

Is it me, or am I not better off

Unfortunately it's not as straightfoward as that.

If you look carefully, you'll see another con in the example table. The FVF is only going to be 40p with the discount. And if you read up on the discount page as to who it will apply to, well...you need to be a registered business seller.

    http://web.ebay.co.uk/businesshub/index.php?page=price_changes_uk_discounts

In actual fact you'll be paying 2.25% more on FVFs, so not 53p, but 75p. Unless you qualify for these discounts of course.

Oh yes silly me. I forgot you have to be a business seller, I hadn't took any notice of that. DOH!.

Still it only cost me 40p to list, so in a way I feel as though I got a bargain.

eBay is still increasing their take and not being overly transparent about it. Has Watchdog covered this yet? I know they had Richard from eBay on working lunch but I don't think they covered the story particularly well.
