    great thread. my TV favorites

TV Noodles 8p a pack - my DS2 lives on them
if you are posh you can put a small amount pack of TV Smoked salmon trimmings (£1.10ish) in or share with more noodles - I fed a family of 6 for tea for £1.04 :)

    others:

TV frozen peas 3/5 - OK but bit lumpy
TV sliced white bread 2/5 - pretty awful
    TV eggs 4/5 - OK
    TV tinned tomatoes - 5/5
fruit and veg - been pretty good so far
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine

The only thing I can see that's not going to be cost effective is something like chicken, where they're injected lets of water.

Check the water content before buying to see actually how much meat content there is. It'll prob surprise you once you've worked it out.

If you can buy (for example) TV 4 breasts at £4, but the water content is 25%, you're effectively getting 3 breasts for £4. Whereas the other stuff may have less water and be more expensive, but work out similarly priced overall.

Next time I go I'll have a look.

My only concession to budget strangulation these days is that I wont buy cheap chicken (therefore no chicken at all!).

I was saddened and horrified by the conditions in which the cheapo chickens were raised. Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall were right to point out that there have to be some humane considerations to rearing animals for food.
:o Keep trying.........................what else is there to do? :o

Thanks for the tip about the tinned TV custard. DS2 loved it so much that he licked his bowl clean - first time round and for seconds! (Not great manners but I'll excuse them at that price and making the most of every penny!)

I found this thread on the grocery challenge thread... I've decided to buy only Value/Smart Price/Basics food all month, except things that aren't available in those lines (like milk or sugar).
I thought I'd shop Tesco online (only have Asda and Morrisons local) and so I looked up a good voucher code... then, I managed to book a cheap delivery slot (£3.5 after 9pm tomorrow night - works for me!) Then... well... I spent £96. I did a search for "Tesco Value" and then browsed every single Value item, picking anything and everything that looked good. I figured I'd try a few things, too. For all I know, that sage and onion stuffing mix mixes up tasty. For that price, I can try a box and find out... repeat that about 25 times and you can get up to £90 worth of Value stuff! (I did, at least, have a voucher code for £13 off, so that covers the delivery plus £9.5 worth of groceries).

It took the delivery driver four trips, with two full plastic crates each time, to bring it all to my door. We were piling things on every available surface, trying to empty his crates quickly. The invoice he gave me was three pages long... I had to put away 141 items.

I don't know how I found the space, but I did it! My freezer is now bulging with meat and vegetables, my cupboards are crammed with cans and packets. The fridge overflows with yogurt and cheeses.

Honestly, except for milk, a little bit of fresh fruit, and maybe the odd ingredient needed to make up a recipe, I don't think I'll need to buy any more food all month long.

Anyway, the only thing we've tried so far is the box of chocolates. It's 200g of assorted chocolates for 97p. You probably wouldn't want to give them as a gift of anything, because they're not packaged fancy. They're pretty good. That is to say, they taste lovely. Anyway, we enjoyed them - we needed the sugar boost after all the sorting and putting away!

Small point, you can buy value milk (skimmed) which is actually very nice. Dunno about the sugar as I don't use it.
