All Phones Are Now Free to UNLOCK!!!

Good afternoon everyone,
I can see there's some confusion here so thought I'd clarify it for you as an official channel.
Contract handsets sold on Vodafone are no longer network locked, so anyone who owns an existing Vodafone contract handset and account can get the phone unlocked free of charge regardless of the age of the handset, as opposed to the previous £19.99 inc. VAT. that applied for handsets less than 12 months old.
Pay As You Talk Vodafone handsets are still network locked, and a charge of £19.99 including VAT still applies to get them unlocked, unless the handset is more than 12 months old.
Have a nice day,
Hopefullyuseful1

Can you please provide to the link to the page that states that0 -
Ha! Just put a virgin sim on an O2 Nokia phone, (12 months old) and it works!0

You probably got it from cpw. If so that's quite usual.0

Can someone post a link or fill in details about this OFTEL ruling?
I'm still trying to get my nokia on Orange unlocked before i leave the country in March.0 -
The Ofcom Rule use to be that Networks have to unlock if asked but can charge for doing so.I was not aware that this rule had been changed.0

Worked for me on both phones....

I did this a year ago!
Rang vodafone, asked if they could unlock the phone for me as I wanted to use it on another network, and they posted me the code.
It took ages though, 6-8 weeks I think.0 -
I just called OFCOM,, and was told that companies can refuse to unlock the phones they sell, even though it wasn't in the T&Cs, and that I should get it unlocked somewhere else.0

I have 2 x Nokia PAYT phones over 2 yrs old locked to vodafone. I phoned them yesterday and spoke to a guy who was absolutely adamant that I would have to stump up £19.99 each to unlock them. I quoted all the info above to him, and each time, he went away and came back with the same reply.
Could one of the posters above who is in the know please confirm exactly what vodafone should do for free and exactly what words and/or references to instructions I should quote at them.
Many thanks0 -
just for the people who keep posting that 02 phones accept any sim thats because they dont come network locked, they just come network branded0
