My sister used to use them as candle holders for long thin candles and let the wax melt down the side of the bottle - looked really effective as she used to burn different colour candles in the same bottle so got a rainbow effect.

My neighbour plants trailing plants in them - not sure how he cuts the bottom of them off but hangs them upside down, fills with compost and grows trailing plants in them (not sure what though as I'm not a gardener). In the height of summer they are really pretty.
2016 is the year I am going to find time for me, and cherish the time I spend with my friends and family.
It is also time to save - Aim £4,000 - So far this year - £230/£4,000

  • Hey everyone,

I think you would love this idea as I saw it in Covent Garden in London. There is a guy who squashes bottles in a special kiln to make a wonderful cheese platter or spoon rest, he can also squash any bottle(they call it slumping), he has Smirnoff, Coke, Corona, Jack Daniel even Marmite jars.

I bought few things from him as the price is very good have a look at what he does:

Thanks everyone, it's a wonderful thread.

  • Last Christmas a barman friend of mine gave me lots of the small wine bottles- they only hold one glass worth- and I put flavoured vodka in them, worked well for making seperate colour skittles vodka.

This year I'd love another idea for them, bubble bath sounds lovely but I'm tying to get away from smellies as gifts, think I've over done it in the past!!

Any other ideas out there? I wish I had a glass cutter!!
    xx

To make a small hole in a bottle you will need a dart, water and a thumb.
Fill the bottle right up to the top and stick your thumb in and then tap away with the dart tip, you will need to be a bit heavy handed but it works wonders.
The water in the bottle with your thumb in the top acts as pressure, hench the bottle will not crack.
Have tried it lots of times and it works on any part of the bottle.
