I just can't resist.., picking up a penny knowing that the Chancellor is not taking 40% of it makes it irresistible.

What's the old saying? (I'm sure it's written on this site numerous times...)

"Look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves."

Agreed. My answer: I'll pick up pennies without a second's hesitation (although homeless pennies go to charity at Children in Need time).

I pick up every penny I see and it goes into a jar, funny thing, if I find a pound I usually buy a lottery ticket with it.
  • I'd pick up any amount from 1p, just in case the next person I met offered to sell me a Rolls Royce for 1p - then I'd be able to afford it.
    and... ... ...
If I went into Burger King/McDonald's for a 99p burger and only had 98p they wouldn't sell it to me so if I found 1p, I'd buy that burger and be a happy lady!
  • I haven't quite reached the stage where I wouldn't bend to pick up a penny, sometimes I'm tempted, but I remind myself that there are parts of the world where people couldn't comprehend a country where money is left on the ground, and I wonder what impression they would have of us for leaving it. It's a version of parents encouraging their children to eat by saying "There are people starving in Africa who'd love that" so I bend and retrieve any coins. Seeing so many walking on and ignoring money, no wonder that our wonderful welfare system, and our belongings, are abused by some incomers from poor countries, they probably think we have so much we don't care.

    My sentiments exactly :T.

If I can, I will pick up any coins.

I used to work with someone who would ask us if we would throw a coin in to the rubbish bin, if not then don't waste a penny! He was a wise man.
A penny saved is one you don't have to earn!
