That's a good sales technique: the store manager sends an employee to scatter small-denomination coins randomly in the car park early in the morning. Customers arrive, and occasionally find one. Said customer feels lucky and happy, and is more likely to make a large purchase in the store.
Superb! Thus the old Gentleman ended his Harangue. The People heard it, and approved the Doctrine, and immediately practised the Contrary, just as if it had been a common Sermon; for the Vendue opened ...THE WAY TO WEALTH, Benjamin Franklin, 1758 AD0 -

A couple of years back, I asked myself what the English "dignity level" was and (as a foreigner with no shame) picked up everything I found on my way to work (and back) in the course of a year (divided into two half-years). It got close to an addiction and at the end of the year I counted 49 pounds in loose coins + the odd euro, swiss-franc, old 10 shilling and even an iranian 250 rial (wonder how all this stuff ends up here). However, every day, I noted carefully in an excel sheet the coin and total value of my findings and at the end of the year drew my conclusions:
There is not a "sharp" border between what is picked up or not, rather, it is actually the size of the coin, rather than its value that determines if it is picked up or not. For instance I found more 20 p coins that 10 p, more 5 p than 2 p and so on, so there is no dignity level, just different level of eyesight.
Highlights of my efforts, a few 2 pound coins, 20 1 pounds and an expensive watch ! Furthermore, I realised how playing such a silly game can actually make public transport mildly entertaining.
The coins are still in a jar waiting for me to find the right charity to donate it to.0 -
It's fun watching people near break their necks trying to pick up a cardboard disc from party poppers thinking they are pound coins.just passing through.... Nothing to see....0

I found a wallet stuffed with cash in an amusement arcade once. Like a good little 9 year old I handed it straight in to the cashier. Hmm, bet that made his day.0

Pick up every coin you can find. I have nothing but abject contempt for losers who literally throw money away.
The secret of having something to spend is not giving away what you have.
Too often people are suckered into charities and helping out their 'mates!'
Don't work hard - work smart and when you see money on the ground then take it. It makes you richer, NOT poorer.0 -
I said 10p, but this is if I'm on my own. If my children are with me I let them pick it up. They get so excited when they find money and they put it in their piggy banks when they get home. If I found a large amount of money I would take it to the police (honest!). After 30 days if no-one claims it they let you keep it :j . This is obviously a lie perpeptuated by the manufacturers of the penny.
As he bends down to pick it up a car door slams into his head, rendering the tough guy unable to drive a car.:D
I certainly learned a lesson that day.

I pick up pennies if I can be bothered. I found a wallet once with a full wage packet in which I handed in to the bloke who had lost it, he looked at me like I had stolen it and slammed the door in my face, I was about 8 at the time.
The biggest load of cash I have found was £200 hanging out of a cash machine but my wife made me hand it in, it still annoys me when I think about it.Nothing to see here, move along.0
