while I think shrek has a point ,it's not nice for us all to start name calling and making personal comments about any poster ........is it?

I thought about that but on reflection it shows just what sort of person we are dealing with. Hopefully the regulars at least may decide otherwise to give there advice when he clearly isn't grateful. I will never contribute to there posts again, at least I wont waste my time any more on them when it clearly isn't appreciated.

I never once until today asked for a thanks, but I thought with all the advice a 1/3rd of a second in time is all it took to click on the thanks button. That's obviously to much to ask for some people.

Come on, it doesn't cost anything to say thanks and it's not a big deal.

If we want folk to give advice freely then expecting a little recognition and ordinary politeness isn't unreasonable.

Take this example from the Benefitsforum
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=74256
Serious problem get considered replies from two MSE'ers but no thanks and no come back. It is really too much to expect posters to make an acknowledgement for the time effort and expertise people freely offer?

To be quite fair, when I first come on board here I had no idea what the thanks button was all about. Why does it matter? Nobody has forced you to answer anybody's question. Shouldn't it be enough that you have extended yourself to help someone. Why does everybody need a pat on the back constantly? It doesn't necessary mean they are "bad" people if they forget once in a while.

Quite true and I've been posting for long enough to appreciate that. But it does no harm to remind people that it does take time, knowledge and energy to prepare an answer and that if someone has spent time and energy freely to help a particular individual it is somewhat galling when that individual cannot be bothered to return to read the replies or acknowledge that other people have made an effort to help them. For most of the contributors here a reply is simply an off the cuff remark which has cost them nothing more than a few seconds, but for others, the effort involved in thinking about, preparing the answer, finding the associated links, testing them and finally editing the final reply is for them, considering their mental and physical disabilities a considerable effort and investment. For this not to be responded to at all is regrettable.
It may indeed not matter to you that your efforts are not acknowledged at all, but others do appreciate a little common curtesy.

Mountains out of molehills spring to mind.... I can only think that MDUK didn't understand/find the advice helpful. To actually ask for thanks rather defeats the point.

Indeed, similarly generating threads specifically designed to generate spurious thanks is also annoying.

  • why all the hassle over something as small as thanking someone?

it's not going to change the course of anyone's life.

But why start a new thread on the injustice of it all? If you felt the other person was in the wrong wouldn't it be the decent thing to PM he/she and say your gripe to them personally then publicy say so. How awful for him/her.That to me is more of a lack of curtesy than not pressing a thanks button.
