i flew to jfk in july 2005 so im guessing the flight was booked after august 04. i flew with an athletics group, would they be able to reclaim the money for all the 100 or so tickets they bought or can they only claim the one lot of £2 or whatever it is? (the organisation is a charity so the money would come in handy!)

If they bought 100 tickets, I would imagine that each ticket would have had the fuel s/c applied. Therefore I would assume that they would be able to claim for each and every ticket. If the tickets were bought in the specified period and were for roundtrip flights from the U.K to JFK, the indication from the U.S. lawyers is that their claim would be approx. £20 X 100 = £2000.

  • Would it be unreasonable to try to claim for "Freddie Fares" which were heavily discounted by Virgin for flights to Australia following an England cricket success?

I think BA had similar offers too.

If they had the fuel surcharge applied, I would not think it unreasonable, everything else being according to the claim criteria. It is not the fare that is in question, it's the fuel surcharge applied.

Does anyone know if I have to register the whole family separately?
Or will i give my childrens information at a later stage?
Just registered, but travelled as a family and I would like to know the answer to your question too.

My personal opinion would be to register the person that actually bought the ticket(s) at this stage. You are only registering to claim at this time. I'm sure that these matters will be resolved at a later stage and that you would have plenty of time to amend if necessary.

My wife flew in this claim period and I just checked the credit card statement and the ticket was bought on the 11 August 04 which is the start date for the claim period. Lucky!

The claim website appears to be set up by some lawyers and it says this "There will be no deduction from this fund for lawyers' fees."

So can't help but think the lawyers will probably claim more from the airlines for there fees per refund then the amount we will actually be offered by the airlines.
  • I have moved house since I flew, I have put my current address, hope this is right! I suppose that untill we receive the confirmation emails we will never know!

I flew to NYC with my then boyfriend (now husband) in July 2005. We booked it in February 2005, so I know we are eligble for the compensation but I was flying under my maiden name then, so a bit confused as put my married name on the online form where you leave your name and address. Haven't had an email from them yet either.
  • man, how annoying, I made several long haul flights with Virgin as part of a round the world trip - unfortunately they were all done and dusted by July 2004!!! Oh well. Good luck everyone else.
  • This may only apply to USA/UK Flights
  • I've not had an email confirmation either but I registered in my husbands name for a virgin flight to Orlando he took in Dec 04 and again when we went as a family in March 05.
I don't think I have any paperwork that relates to it though anymore.
Well I can't stand by the side
And watch this life pass me by
