HDMI cable? and upscaling dvd

If I was to say, measure how fast 2 cars can get to 60 miles an hour from standstill Id use the same fuel and tyres and compare the times taken
But you would measure how fast the cars were going and how long it took.
You wouldn't say it looked like you were going at 60 mph or you felt it had taken you 20 seconds to get there.
And if you did, it would be pretty meaningless in any such comparison.0 -

You're unable to provide any evidence or technical reason why using expensive cable to transport digital data makes the outputted media "better", and that speaks volumes.
Thats because I dont know. Sorry but i'm not THAt technically minded. Ive read why braided cable works but why hdmi cables vary I can not tell you. All I can say is that the qed was simply not as good a picture quailty as my chord or wireworld (they were actually very similar but the wireworld pipped it in out and out detail and 3 dimensionality). However, the qed still has a jaw dropping picture, just not as good as the other 2
So please stop asking because other than my eyes and ears (Which are both in good working order) I cant say much more on hdmi quality.
In terms of mains cables, some which I EXPECTED to be good were a bit pap (merlin being one that sticks to mind):idea:0 -
You really are the biggest wan*er I think ive ever met online. well done you.
If you can't handle being disagreed with, then you should refrain from stating an opinion. For the record......I REALLY hope we meet one another one day
I'm sorry if I have given you the wrong idea.

I think youll find I was talking about HIFI. A firewire and usb leads are all about COMPUTERS. Computers are NOT hifi. They are designed to take information from one place and place it to another (transfer information). Of COURE they work as the information has no way of just dissapearing. Im talking about minute details that can get lost in a signal(Nothing WHATSOEVER to do with ANY computer files of ANY kind)
Yes but this is the whole basis of this argument. You quite hapily agree that a computer file will travel down a digital cable (e.g. firewire or usb) and get to the other end exactly the same regardless of the quality of the cable, which is very true. The problem is there seems to be a bit of a misunderstanding regarding the HDMI interface and how it works. It IS a digital interface which to all intents and purposes means its doing exactly the same as transfering a computer file. The actual picture and sound are not travelling down the cable, instead a digital string of 0's and 1's is going down the cable which has been sent by the source and the recieving device then reads this 'DATA' and converts it back into a picture and sound. The basis of the data transfer is no different to sending a computer file down a cable and that is exactly why you wont get interference like bleeding and you wont notice a difference with a more expensive cable.
As for your experiences with your friend and his samsung tv, lets please remember that we are talking about HDMI cables here and digital interfaces. You said your friend has a samsung tv and was using freeview, most freeview boxes use scart leads (and I imagine this one does too) and there are many ways a more expensive scart lead can improve the picture quality as scart cables carry an analogue signal. In addition to that some cheap scart leads dont use all the pins so he may not have been getting the optimal picture that way too (e.g. RGB scart will give much better image quality over composite but you need a scart cable that has the RGB pins connected and not all scart sockets on tv's will accept an RGB signal). So lets stick to the case in point please0 -

My friend had no cables of any kind so I supplied condtioner, 2 mains and a hdmi (For the dvd player). So it was ALL those collectively (But the conditioner and the mains that made his inbuilt freeview look far better)
The hdmi case as i've explained (somewhere ~ im getting a bit lost
) is one of simply trying 3 different ones out and the 2 dearer ones looked quite a bit more sharper and 3 dimensional than the qed one (which is still VERY good by the way and I highly recommend to anyone willing to spend 50 quid on one (Cheaper on ebay)) :idea:0 -
