The Sun (£19.50) European Hols

  • The two of us are on a tight (MSE!) budget, do you have any links to the sites showing these prices? :)

The most likely sites we are going to stay at are Berny Riviere (Croix du vieux port) and Wassenaar (Duinrell). For example, Berny Riviere is £120 for 3 weekend nights direct with Keycamp but would cost £132+ with Sun holidays for our family of 6. It's only cheaper with Keycamp because we don't need the crossing - if you need the crossing, then it is more likely to work out cheaper as a Sun holiday. We also get to choose EXACTLY where and when we are going plus accommodation.

There are loads more than that. It can often be cheaper if you book mobiles directly with each campsite - Berny Riviere has its own mobiles, as well as ones owned by Eurocamp, Keycamp etc.

A couple of points if you have booked.

Read the small print usually under the "20 things every sun holiday maker needs to know" and be aware that the european camps take a deposit against damage of €50 or a non-refundable damage waiver charge - think it may be €15. They also make a charge for site upkeep. This is in addition to the booking fee you pay "The Sun" upfront.

Something else that catches people out is the Swimming trunks policy. No shorts allowed only speedo type trunks.
    Hope this helps:beer:
not all sites adhere to this policy

it was something hubby was worried about :rotfl:

la croix du vieux pont allow shorts :)

definitely worth looking online for a quote, before booking a SUN holiday

we have always saved loads  but worth checking and comparing,
factoring in the extras to pay,see which is cheapest
  • I found this on the happycamp website
    Visitor's/ Tourist Tax
In France, Croatia & Hungary you must pay a daily tourist tax on arrival. This is a local tax and must be paid directly to the campsite.

Does anyone know if this is much?

ps thanks everyone for answering all these pesky French camping questions - I like to try and know exactly what I'm getting into, particularly money-wise. :D
  • Oh no another question - what do you think of the Sun's insurance? We don't bother in the UK, but France is different.

£22.50 seems good value for health & car breakdown cover?

It isn't a bad deal but.........it only covers you for the travel to and from the park for the actual dates you are booked with the day travel each side. For example if you are only on a 3 day break you are only covered the 3 days. Most people extend their holiday so for the second part you would not have cover.

The breakdown in this country is a pay yourself & claim back afterwards but I can't quite remember what the european cover deal was. Again check the small print in the original offer.

Personally I think you can get a better insurance deal through this site using moneysavingsupermarket etc etc

Hope this helps and have a good holiday:beer:

Thanks Potaroo, even if we don't get a Sun deal we'll pop over to France for a short break, all the info on French caravan sites really helps everyone.

Re: insurance, we won't be extending the hols and I did have a quick google search and couldn't find any single trip deals for both health & car that were cheap.

    :)
  • Hi there,
Just wondered if anyone who entered this has had anything returned from it? I sent all my vouchers and payment off last Thursday and haven't heard yet, said we'll be notified by the 12th. I went for all the sites closest to the ferry port to avoid driving, fingers crossed we haven't chosen anywhere with a no shorts policy or the men in my party are going to be a bit miffed!

    Hi

Think you've answered your own question there!
  • Well that was a useful post wasn't it!
My point was if anyone had sent their vouchers off before me and thus had been contacted before me- I was wondering about how they were contacted, what information the Sun gave them and if they got their first choices on dates or sites.
    Thanks for the help though!
