If the mechanism isnt working when you lift the handles with the door open it needs replacing or at the very least the center gearbox. you need to remove the ntire locking strip then identify it to get an identical replacement.

You may think a locksmith is dear but they could save you money in the longterm. Although you may be able to change the mechanism, if you can manage to get one, many are discontinued and alternatives have to be fitted requiring a bit of work to adapt the door and frame to make them fit.
If you do manage to fit one you still need to sort the actual problem which is what caused the mechanism to fail in the first place as its failure is only a sypmtom of something else.

The door may be out of square and require toe and healing, it may have dropped, have a loose frame and or other varied quirks that can affect the locking mechanism,

As for the key stuck in the lock you need to remove the barrel and replace it.
Im not going into it on here as its also how you can break into houses but google will reveal it if you care to look hard enough.

Thanks I think I'll replace the barrel if possible, I also picked up a window from the same people so assume that the door was in working order when removed, maybe the barrel is rusted up with the key.

    Help please
My upvc lift up handle door won't open. I got as far as taking the handle off putting it back on. Obviously it still is shut. I think the central main lock is locked into position. How can I get this open please?

Hi i need help urgently. The key has snapped in my ex girlfriends euro cylinder lock in the upvc door at back of the house. The door is unlocked and the house is not secure. She is home alone with her 6 year old son and I am sick with worry. We are unable to call locksmiths due to money troubles. Her landlord won't help he says it's her fault even though the lock has always been difficult to operate since she moved in. The key is turned in the lock but the lock is not engaged. I have removed the handles and retaining screw in the lock thinking the euro cylinder would simply slide out and i would be able to replace it, this is not the case. I think maybe the cam is turned stopping the euro cylinder from coming out. If I were to snap the euro cylinder with mole grips would this remove it enabling me to fit a new one? It doesn't look like an expensive one so don't think it has anti-snap system on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  • My sliding patio door lock has broken. The door has what seems to be a SCHLEGEL BHD 2 POINT patio door lock, but it is installed within the frame of the door, so I am at a loss as to how I can get to it in order to replace it.

    Any suggestions please?
