uPVC door lock mechanism broken!

Hi it sounds like the window lock mechanism has broken. It is usually the spindle hole that collapses so the handle moves but not the lock points. You need a new window lock simply remove the old one and fit the new one and it should work fine. Have a look at upvcspares4repairs.co.uk they do all sorts of locks. If you are struggling to identify it you will find there home security help page useful. Good luck spare parts guy0

Hi,
I had locked myself in and a locksmith came and drilled the lock to let me out.
I want to replace the cylinder now. However, even after I remove the centre screw and the handle, I can't get the old cylinder out using the key. The key just doesn't turn from either side. It feels like something is stuck there.
Does that mean the multipoint lock is broken because of the drilling?
How can I get the cylinder out?0 -
Have you tried turning the key a little and then pulling the cylinder lock out at the same time?
You should have asked the locksmith to remove the cylinder for you. Have you tried calling and asking? If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -

I have tried it but the key doesn't turn.
I'm trying to do it myself to save money.0 -
Hi
Sorry to muscle in on this post but my front door is now not working either.
We have a upvc front door with a lift handle to lock inside part but just a pull handle and key lock on the outside.
Recently to close the door we've had to really slam it to activate the latch. Now, the latch does come out at all, so we can't close the door without manually locking it with a key, it can't remain on the latch.
Do I need a whole new mechanism or just a part, or maybe a new door (gulp!).
Can anyone point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.0 -

It depends on the brand of your mechanism. Most you can change the centre case / gearbox. Look above the latch and below the bolt, is there a torx screw or square rivet? if it is torx screws you should be able to change it, if rivets then a whole new mechanism. Is there a brand name on the edge strip?"Nil Sine Labore" - Nothing Without Labour0 -
Hi
Just wondered if anyone can help me - the inside handle of the uPVC door handle has just come off my french doors - I can, carefully still lock and unlock the door, but any suggestions for a repair or does the whole thing need replacing?
Sorry if it sounds basic explanation - I'm not brill at DIY and have no one else to ask! If you need more info, let me know!
Thanks in advance0 -
Hello, I wonder if somebody can help me with this problem on my uPVC front door please.
When I arrived home earlier and locked the door behind me, the handle didn't feel normal as I lifted it to the raised position - it felt like something was grinding.
Now, I can't get the door to open. The handle feels smooth again, but is "springing up" to the raised position by itself, instead of down to the horizontal position. I can push the handle down to horizontal, but no further down than that to release the door - it stops solidly, then jumps up when released. The cylinder lock still feels normal but makes no difference whether "locked" or not. Both the inside and outside handles behave the same (and I still have access via the back door).
With the door in the closed position I have no access to the screw to change the cylinder lock - although I doubt that's the culprit anyway. I'm also not sure that I could get the door off its hinges from a closed position - they seem to be the "lift off" type.
Any suggestions - or is it a job for a pro? Many thanks.0 -
Hi
My upvc door handles have dropped down, don't spring back. When the handles are lifted up the hooks don't move. The only to move them is insert the key in like im locking the door and move the hooks with my hand. The unlock with the key and when I pull the handles down the multi locks retract back in.
What could be the problem? Barrel? handles? or the long strip on the door with all the multi locks on it. Don't want to call a lock smith as they charge over £100 quid and haven't got that sort of money
thankz

Hi, hope you can advise on a lock problem, I recently acquired a second hand upvc french door with frame for a shed/ workshop I'm building, problem is that the key appears to be stuck in the lock (the key is a bit rusty so may have been there for a while) and it won't turn to unlock, the door is shut at the moment. Before i install it I'd like to get it working, what should I be checking and in what order? Thanks in advance.0
