it also records on dvd-r discs, you can pick these discs up for next to nothing. also plug your camcorder into front sockets and put your film onto disc. Get to argos or order one because this is a must £39.99 its a steal.

Will it work with virginmedia? I am assuming it will since it has scart connections. On another note it, it has an anologue tuner so that means when analogue is stopped in the next few years I will only be able to use my virgin box 's tuner and therefore be unable to watch one channel while recording from another. Is this correct?

thor its got 2 scarts so it will work with your box.
my only doubt of getting one is that its mono sound and not the nicam sound of the acustic solutions one that was posted on ebuyer a couple of days ago for a couple of quid more.

  • have reserved one, have wanted for a long time to get all my old camcorder tapes put onto dvds, this is a really cheap way of doing this...... thanks!!!
  • Plenty of forum reports over on HUKD saying the Mono Sound description is only half true - it WILL output stereo through Scart. I think it also does Dolby Digital 5.1 sound with the right connections. Mono is just an option - I believe it's advertised because mono sound takes up less space on a recordable disc.

I'm picking one up as a present for my folks at lunchtime so will try to confirm later.

UPDATE: specification on box says 2 channel analogue audio output; coaxial digital audio output. It describes the front panel sockets as "CVBS, Audio L/R input on front panel" which is most likely to mean yellow composite video and red and white audio connections, to answer CDR1122's question.

  • Thanks for this, have just reserved one to collect, do you need the hdmi cable to go with it?

Forgive my total technophobia, but our old VCR is pretty much dead and so thought we'd replace with a recordable DVD. We don't have an HD TV, but we do have sky so will this still work ok recording off sky?

Also , would i be better off getting one with freeview tuner in to enable me to record one channel and watch another or does it not work that way? We have sky so technically don't need the actual channels but at the moment of course we have the option to watch sky1 and record bbc2 etc and would ideally like to be able to continue in this fashion?

Looked at SKy+ but they aren't doing good offers for existing customers.

Blonde head on today, it's all confusing me a bit and dont want to buy this if it's not what we really need.

manda, when is your sky subs up? not so long back we wanted sky + and were out of our tie in so i called to say i wanted out as virgin media offered me more, hey prsto, free sky + and installation. there was a thread on here somewhere saying what to say worth a look up. im a technophobe and am wondering the same thing, will this be usable after we have gone digital??
A happy wife, and mum to 2 lovely little boys :j
