Just to be different, my American Express account has twice received the funds two days BEFORE they have left my account.0

And as for people who still use them in shops and then use their debit card as a cheque guarantee card - sheesh - don't get me started!!!!
But isn't this a moneysaving wheeze ? Keep the cash in your account for as long as possible for interest purposes. I have lasted for up to two weeks before before the cash has been taken from my account. Usually small shops, sole traders and the like where one man and his dog do the books and don't get down to the bank all that often.0 -
This was sorted out 40 years ago in New Zealand. How on earth can the worlds 4th largest economy STILL take this long to 'clear' cheques?0

When I send money from my savings account, it appears in the receiving account 2 days later. I sent money to a Halifax account last Friday and it was received the following Tuesday. I also sent money on Monday and it was received on Wednesday. I can live with that. if cheques cleared that quickly I would be happy.0

It makes me sad that we haven't got a brave enough government to stand up to banks and get this mess that they call 'banking' sorted out once and for all (like they did in Sweden).
Perhaps it's because half of the govt. sit on the board of directors of these banks?0 -
Be honest - how many times has the present system saved your !!!!!! - eg a bill 3 days before payday0

Eventually, WHEN clearing times are decreased, I don't believe that WE will win. Either the abysmally low interest rates currently paid will be decreased or the banks will make a charge for the privilege of running our accounts. I understand that the Swedes charge in the region of a fiver a year.
As a mongrel amongst customers who banks with a thoroughbread amongst banks, I have currently "earned" 38p in interest so far this year. I would therefore be £4-62 in the red if a fiver a year would be charged. Any increase in interest payable due to shorter clearing times would not be applicable because as soon as incoming cheques are cleared, they are withdrawn, in cash.0 -
