I presume that is the same thing. Only current online tariffs I see in the switcher sites are "ElectricityOnline Extra Saver 5" and "ElectricityOnline".

    Hi bigv,

i think you need to be careful. With scottish power it will be the unit prices that are capped, not your direct debits. So, scottish power would have worked out that you use roughly £31 of energy per month. However if you have now drastically increased your usage they may increase your direct debit.

    Brilliant that makes sense.

Do you think it is best to go with the best capped or uncapped tariff then? With the best uncapped I am making a saving of £45 a year, with the best capped I'm losing £65 odd.

Beware E.on say they raised prices on 08/02/08 but haven't updated the website prices so neither have energyhelpline.com even though they give 'Updated to 10/02/08'. Hence E.on come out top with a big saving which is really a lie which switchers may not discover for three months. I wonder what the 'legal' position will be with energyhelpline.com (and probably other sites) for giving false info with no warning, they aready knew when I phoned them.

E.on have an auto sign up process, if this gives the old prices on the confirmation letter would that be binding?
  • l have been with powergen for a few years and the prices seem to be going up now so l did a comparison on the websites and found Ebico, it is £50 cheaper .combined gas /elect. l am not on a meter myself but they say that people who are on meters are not charged any extra than people on quarterly bills also you dont have to go on d.d..basically ,there is only one tariff for everyone and no standing charge. l have signed up to them and look forward to seeing my first bill. sorry l cant do the link if some kind person would oblige

When I moved into this house (Nov 2006), it was assigned to Powergen (now E-on) by the builders. As new tenants we had to register with Powergen as customers. I was given an estimate of DD of £65 per month for Gas and Electric. My first opinion was 'oh well - give em a chance. If I'm not happy after the first 12 months, I can always change.' When Nov 2007 arrived I was so much in credit that they reduced my DD to £55 per month! That'll do for me - they can have my custom for another 12 months. Previously I had been with British Gas for the gas and ScottishPowerManweb for electricity with prepayment meters (card system) for both. In those days, I didn't seem to get as much for my money as I do now - yes I know that prepayment customers pay at a higher rate than 'quarterly customers' but it's still one heck of a difference. I NEVER had the c/h on at my old address - here I have it on for around 6 hours everyday in the winter months.

Having just signed up with them, I am quite alarmed by this I received their confirmation letter with prices yesterday but haven't double checked the prices (I will tonight!!!). Anyone can confirm this?

The prices for E.ON energy online extra saver 5 are correct on the comparison sites. This tariff was released after the price increase announcement and the reason the prices are so low is so that E.ON have at least one competitive tariff in the market.

I suggest you phone E.ON and check the unit prices they have against what you see on the comparison sites. try this number 0800 183 1377.

I've been on E.ON energy online extra saver 5 for six months or so and energyhelpline.com agreed they are due to rise. If they were holding these prices Martin would be telling us to switch to them fast.

I checked the prices on E.ON's website - they are the same as on energyhelpline.com and my last bill and very likely on agreement letters, if they are wrong that's E.ON's problem I'm not wasting my time phoning them.
  • Does anyone know how to find out, on line, whether Sainsbury's Energy have increased their gas/elecricity prices yet?
The written estimate I was given by them in December 07 for the following 12 months is lower than if I switched now to the cheapest company stated on Uswitch. Should I switch or hang on?
I know Sainsbury's Energy has been taken over by EDF energy.

Some of you may be interested in accessing Uswitch via the link below: http://www.topcashback.co.uk/retailerdetailuSwitch.htm
Anyone switching to Eon may be interested to know that the following cash back site is offering £60 cash back for opening a dual fuel a/c: http://www.topcashback.co.uk/retailerdetailPowergen_:_E.ON_(Domestic).htm
