  • Forgive me for possibly sounding stupid here but i am with Eon ( Powergen ) and have been for some years, i get Tesco clubcard points and can submit meter readings on line, also my price plan is protected until April 2010. Anyway here goes the stupid questions,
    1. Even though i am price plan protected does this definately mean although the fuel increases are taking place i will still pay the same upto April 2010 as i do now ?
    2. If the above is true then why is Martin scare mongering everyone to switch left right and centre ?
    Cheers

I switched to Scottish Power in Nov 06 and now the time is right to switch again.

So I have just been on moneysupermarket and put in my details and it has come up with the following, but the reviews about e-on hasn't encouraged me to switch. Just wondered if anyone else has used e.on and how they have found them?

Also read that a few people have used quidco? I dont know much about quidco can anyone point me in the right direction? Ive been on quidco.com, am i right in thinking i sign up to quidco and then switch through them?

could you use quidco to get on to moneysupermarket (£20)then get eon dual fuel (£30) meaning total £50 cashback?
Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!

Posted this in the other thread but I think it might be more relevant here.

    I'm a bit confused.

I am currently on Scottish Power Price Fall which is capped until November and I pay £31 every month. Because it's always £31 I now leave the hot water on all the time compared to last year before I swithced we used to have to cope with 3 minute showers!

Doing a search on energyhelpline, I got a ~£45 annual saving on E-On but this isn't frozen or capped. The best frozen/capped is £60 more expensive a year. If I take the eOn will that mean that I'll end up spending more if I keep the hot water on??
Or is it best to carry on with the fixed price till November?

Forgive me if I have got this wrong, because im new to this Quidco, .... but why use moneysupermarket (£20) then get eon dual fuel (£30) meaning a total of £50 cashback when you could use Quidco straight off and get at least £65 cashback for dual fuel? (£70 cashback less £5 annual fee to quidco if not already paid).

    hi skippy,

i work for eon and to put your mind at rest, yes you avoid the current price increase and any future ones if they were to ever happen till april 2010.

you can come off this tariff at any time though and change to another one at any time as we dont lock people onto any of our tariffs.also if prices go down your tariff goes down with it.

i always advise any customers that i speak to, to check tariffs every 4-6 months as new ones are introduced all the time-the current best tariff with ourselves is online extra saver v5(dual fuel or elec only).

i think what martin is saying is if you are affected by the price rises with any company then it makes sense to look elsewhere or change tariff with your current company.as you are on a tariff where your price is still the same there is no need to worry.

btw as you are currently entering meter reads online this must mean you have an online account.if you have i would advise moving to online extra saver v5 from your current tariff as it will still save you money.you do need to be signed up to monthly dd to move to this tariff though.

if you prefer to have prices fixed to avoid any future price increases then stay on your current tariff.

    hope this helps,

haha yes I thought of going through Quidco to moneysupermarket then on to Eon but I doubt the second move from moneysupermarket to Eon would track back to Quidco so you would just get the £20 from moneysupermarket.

Edit. E on are paying £70 via Quidco not £30 as you state

    Hi bigv,

i think you need to be careful. With scottish power it will be the unit prices that are capped, not your direct debits. So, scottish power would have worked out that you use roughly £31 of energy per month. However if you have now drastically increased your usage they may increase your direct debit.

For anyone switching to, or about to switch to, E-on "ElectricityOnline extra saver 5" make sure you read condition 4 in their terms and conditions. This says that if/when you eventually switch away from them the final bill does not get the 22% discount. So final bills when switching away can be 28% bigger than you might expect. This is a new condition for their version 5 online tariff. The previous (2007 version) of ElectricityOnline extra saver terms and conditions did not have this discount exclusion on the final bill. The switching sites do not mention this.
