5.5 million BT customers are refusing to pay by DD. that tells a big story.

Where does it say they are refusing to pay by DD,surely they choose not to for whatever reason.

Like it or not,5 seperate cases have now been taken against BT, and BT have won everyone so far, each time the court ruling that the charge is fair.

Customers do have a choice of starting to pay by direct debit, incurring the charge or voting on their feet by leaving BT. If they choose the latter they may be hard pushed to find a supplier that does not insist on payment by DD ,or who raises a similar or even higher charge for non payment by DD.

I don't know when this culture of paying by Direct Debit or incurring a charge if one did not comply started. It is force majeur and is absolutely indefensible.

Personally i don't see why people don't pay by direct debit, they have more consumer & payment protection than other methods of payment.

Or have they simply not got a bank account for one reason or another?

Some of us don't have the option of leaving BT as a line supplier.
Calls yes, and as soon as you do that BT start charging again for Caller Display, etc.

I refused to to be "fined" £4.50 to pay my BT bill by DD, especially when I was getting bils of £50+ each quarter and only making £5 worth of actual calls. All the rest was in charges, so another chunk on top was extracting the urine!

I was also with NTL(cable for 2mb BB @ £18 per month) so I was paying a total of about £36 per month for phone and BB.)

Moved to talktalk in January @ £17.50 for phone and BB saving me over £18 per month and my BB is running at 6mb on a possible 8mb line, best move ever to improve my facilities and reduce my costs

No I don't work for CPW or TalkTalk

    That's interesting.
I have AOL Talk for calls.
Are you saying it's possible to have both, switching at weekends?

This woman needs to get up to speed with modern life. As a direct debit payer, I'm bored of constantly subsidising thosen who can't be trusted to run an automated bank account properly.

I hope BT kick her 4ss and then suspend her service as the cherry on the cake.
Sir, It is a testament to your character that you are totally un-concered with other people's regard of you, and that you are prepared to speak out against this unacceptable behaviour.
How dare this wicked and obsolete lady (pirate, more like), treat you - a person of obviously impeccable and selfless character - in such a way?

I think you deserve additional recognition for your insight into exactly who is taking advantage of you.
People may laugh........... but at least you can take comfort in the knowledge that a government or business could never entertain treating you in anything other than a fair and reasonable manner. How absurd!

Thank you for this wake-up call! Trouble is, I just know there will still be some that fail to see your logic and will not find any value in your remarks.

    Sincerely,

I still can't get my head round how they charge £1.50 for monthly payers and £4.50 for quarterly payers. Surely they only take the money once therefore the quarterly payers should be £1.50 as well???? If this is just a ploy to get people to pay on time, why not charge £1.50 if the payment is late? I could live with that.....
Ours is not to wonder why. Some things can not be explained. ;)
