PLEASE HELP What is Tesco's Coupon Policy?

I've just had Huggies Pull Up coupons refused in my local large Tescos. They sell the product but have told me that you now have to buy it. Has anyone else experienced this change? They said it had changed 3 weeks ago, but they took these coupons only last week.

VERY STRANGE - PLEASE HELP

   :( _pale_

Tesco's coupon policy is to change their policy as much as possible, every cashier has been instructed to take different amounts of coupons from ALL to NONE at all, then to sound as authoratative as possible when questioned. If this does not wash with the customer, they are instructed to call Customer Services who will outline a completely different policy that results in even less savings for the customer, who by this stage should be made to feel as embarrised and skinflint as possible whilst still having to continue with buying their shopping.

If all else fails, Tescos employees are to accept coupons but make sure they misprice as much stock as possible to overcharge in order to recoup the losses somewhere.

Or at least, that's what I've gathered. Head Office says something different in their official letter to me...somethign about one of each coupon without buying the product.

Head offices offical policy is to let each store manager (which will be a different one on duty each time you visit) to make their own stores policy. You might get lucky, you might not. Head office will not over-ride the duty manager on this anymore. There is no longer a universal policy, best I can think of is to check with customer services on your way in & hope that person doesn't go off duty before you get to the check out.

They really should get consistant on this. I don't mind if its 10% of the bill or this rule or that, just that I shop according to my budget and a serious part of my budget are my coupons! Even if it was each store that was consistant in a different way, I wouldn't mind!

I tried to use copupons for the first time in Tesco the other day and the cashier wouldnt accept them at all.

Asda however took all my coupons and i was told there that as long as they stock it and the coupons in date then they'll take any amount!

Saved over £20 in my Tesco tonight. Young lad served me.
Same shop on Saturday would only allow 4 vouchers. These people make it up as they go along.

I emailed Tesco directly to ask them their policy - so that I could then print out the reply (with date)- here is a copy of their reply - (Also the policy on internet coupons varies from store to store as THAT is up to the store manager -thankfully mine accepts them)

    Thank you for your email.

Any coupons, which display the Tesco logo, are Tesco specific. We only accept these if the products referred to on the coupons are purchased. This is because we negotiate savings with our suppliers on the condition that these actual products will be purchased.

With regard to coupons from brand name manufacturers, we are happy to accept one, even if you have not purchased the product. The coupon must be in date and Tesco must sell the item. If you present more than one identical coupon, then you must purchase the same number of products.

This also applies to coupons printed from the Internet. These will only be accepted at the discretion of the Store Manager.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to explain our policy.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us at customer.service@tesco.co.uk

    Kazzea,
I have all the emails too but to be honest, when a Customer Services person makes up their mind, nothing seems to shift it. They just say that the % of the bill is at the descretion of the individual store.

The week before last, i was told no coupons unless I bought the product.
This week, coupons could be used for 10% of my shopping and Tesco ones I would have to buy.
It changes from day to day!!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Kazzea, thanks for posting the email from tesco. I printed it out and stashed it at the bottom of my pile of coupons.

Yesterday at checkout, SA told me coupon policy (only one if not purchased) so I produced a wad. After about 15 she stopped and wanted to query with her supervisor. Supervisor went off to query. Came back 5 mins later to say SA needed to return lots of coupons as only 10% of the bill allowed in coupons I asked supervisor to ring HQ to confirm as they'd confirmed something different in an email. "I don't need to ring" supervisor says loftily, " That is the policy". "So why did I get this?", says I producing the email. "Im quite happy to wait while you ring HO to confirm this" Oooo, it felt good. He came back after another 5 minute wait and told SA to scan all the rest (only 50ps worth as it happens!) and told me he'd photocopied the email. Cheek! He didn't even ask if that was okay with me!!!!!!

So it's worth being prepared as you'll make life easier for those who come behind you, hopefully. I depends as to whether that supervisor will try to challenge again as he did look quite embarrassed in front of the staff when I told him he was wrong.

Stand your ground, even if it is only for 50p!
