PLEASE HELP What is Tesco's Coupon Policy?

Hi...I always use coupons when I go shopping.
I'm sure that Tesco cashiers make it up as they go along!
Some say 10%, some say only one coupon if I'm not buying the product, some say "if they scan, they scan!"
I try to carefully select the checkout person and hope I get a good one! I'm now getting to remember the best ones to go to!
I've just come back from a Tesco extra store and my total spend was £126 (Thanks to my hubbys £33 xbox game and a £12 DVD). I handed over a large selection of coupons. I tried not to have to many the same.....that usually starts them asking questions! He scanned them all and my £126, came down to £95 ! £31 off purely in coupons!!!
I'm going to keep trying to go to him if I can!0 -
Handed in about five coupons today and they were handed back without any comment. When I queried whether she had taken money off for the coupons, only then did she say 'You have to buy the products'. This was obviously rubbish since two of the coupons were 'legit' ones for double points and 150 extra points on Healthy Living products. She OBVIOUSLY had not bothered to look at.any of the coupons, let alone scan them in! Having walked away from the checkout, I realised she had KEPT the two 'legit' coupons by the till (not IN the till). Went back to till to 'recover' missing coupons. I am positive the girl had not been trained properly and had no idea how to handle coupons.
Went across to Customer Services to complain and spoke to the sole member of staff 'running' CS. He has worked there for 12 months and was unaware that Tesco accepted coupons without the need to buy the actual product, although naturally I educated him on that point. To his credit, he did call over a colleague who confirmed that Tesco do accept coupons! No further problems getting the missing points added, but Tesco HO will be receiving a strongly worded message very shortly!0 -
If you think money off coupons are hard work. Try using LV :rotfl:
I presented some in two Asda's miles apart. In one she said she had not handled any for 2 years and was unsure of what to do with it. And in the second one don't think had ever seen them before.
They seemed to be classed by the till as manufactures coupons.

Can anyone tell me if the £3.00 Joey DVD coupons scan at Tesco's as they are the only ones i have left at the moment, I am in a right coupon drought, still got the £10.00 Boots Voucher to spend but can't find anything to spend it on0

pesky2 -- they do scan if you can find an assistant who will scan them! As has been often stated, individual stores and staff tend to make up policy as they go along.0

I went to the York Tesco tonight and brought out a handful of internet vouchers. They let me use two - both things I had not bought.
Made sure I used the £1 ones

LV?
One nutcase scanned my first coupon then scanned my other 2 coupons upside down as if I'm some imbecile who wouldn't notice. He then said that they wouldn't scan. Could have decked his face in I was so angry
I have to use the Joey coupons before they stop taking them altogether - it's pot luck although I am remembering which cashiers to go to. I don't mind making a fuss at the till as I know I'm right when I have the email in hand :T and I like arguing and winning... great feeling :rotfl:0 -
Hello Crazy chemist!
Which email do you have in hand? Sorry if I'm stating the obvious!
I emailed Tesco myself and the reply I got basically said that if I didnt buy the product only one coupon. It sounds like one coupon, full stop! Not "one coupon per product". I am very lucky with my coupons and manage to select "good" checkout people. I have had the odd occasion where they refuse but, in the main, they do take them.
BUT, if they do refuse, I would LOVE to have an email to show them!0 -
Knowing that Tesco DO accept coupons if you haven't bought the product, the best tactic I have found is to threaten not to take any of the shopping if they refuse. This normally gets a supervisor and then manager, and they accept them.
Only once did they refuse, and I carried out my threat. They were left with a trolley load of bagged goods that they had to rescan and return to shelves. Of course, weighed goods go into the skip as they cannot return them.0 -
