Does anyone know what the trick is for EE customers to log in to BT WiFi hotspots that only have an Orange and T-Mobile option? It's so frustrating knowing most of the hotspots are basically unusable.Disclosure: I'm a former Barclays employee. All views expressed are my own.0

You can't - it was yet another EE lie !!
Seriously - I looked in to this, 18 months ago - I even asked BT - who admitted that EE were telling porkies - EE customers (orange, tmobile included) are NOT entitled to use BT WiFi hotspots - their claims to have over 700,000 hot spots are false !!
They may have as little as 7,000 throughout the whole UK..0 -
I see that Vodafone is recommended for mobile broadband on this site. If you read the posts on Vodafone's own forum you may think differently:
I'm unable post the link directly, but if you search yahoo or google on "mobile broadband payg change to topups" all will be revealed.
Seems they are prepared to "transcend" the Supply of Goods & Services Act, The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations, and even their own T&Cs!
I wonder if MSE would like to look into this?0 -
I am looking to buy a sim which will be used to upload data only and very small amounts at that. Is there such a thing?
For those who have heard about the Internet of things, this is surely something that is available? I am not going to be downloading anything via this just uploading.
Please help I have not found anything that offers such a sim.0 -
3UK certainly do - their dongle SIMs are good value and will not work for voice calls. Vodafone do a higher priced alternative as well as M2M Sims for data reporting (M2M = Machine to Machine) but is aimed at larger firms for their data collection).0

I have a Nexus 10 which is fabulous but can only use Wi-Fi. That's usually ok: at home, at friends' and in hotels, but I'm staying in a flat in France soon without its own Wi-Fi. In the UK I use virgin media for my smartphone.
Does anyone have an idea of how I can get WiFi at all (preferably at low cost) and for just a couple weeks abroad?0 -

Why not look to your phone and using that as a means of connecting to the internet - via TETHERING
You will probably have to pay your provider (perhaps £5 for a months "permission") and it will probably be slower than broadband but it will be a whole lot cheaper and simple to set up and cancel at the end of your holiday....0 -
Well, I'd never heard of tethering, so I'll look into that. Thanks.0

Since you will be using Bluetooth as a link between devices -
be aware that Bluetooth 2 has an absolute max data transfer rate of 3Mbits per sec - closer to 2Mbits per sec in reality - which will probably be slow compared to your broadband rate and even compared to 3G - But will be fine for emails and small transfers of data (photos etc)0 -
I did a search for tethering on the virgin website which came up blank, but I've not spoken to anyone yet. I used to have an app called tablet talk but I removed it in a spring clean. Maybe that's what I need?0
