I'm not suggesting the website is dodgy, just worried about information being intercepted...0

Hi,
This is my first post although I have been using this site for years. I felt compelled to tell you this story.
I learned I had an account with £600+ from 2005.
Jan 2012 I enquired in branch and they held no details for me except my name and address - no account info was held.
I didnt have any account info either. I called the number I was given and told that no records were held for me. Dec 2012 I contacted the financial ombudsman who investigated on my behalf.
Bank were able to find an account for me but insisted it was closed with a zero balance. I asked the ombudsman to enquire in to the last transactions and I was told the £600+ was withdrawn on 14th July 2005 and the account closed soon after.
Luckily I was abroad over that period and new for a fact I didnt withdraw the money and asked the ombudsman to enquire further in to the specific details of the withdrawal - location, time, cashpoint/bank.
A few weeks later and the ombudsman tells me the money has been found - it was transferred to a holding account and will be returned to me along with £100 compensation and interest accrued since I complained to the ombudsman in Dec 2012.
I am completely overjoyed as they nearly got rid of me on a number of occasions but thankfully I wanted to see statements and evidence with my own eyes rather than taking their word for it. Im very happy my tenaciousness paid off this time.
The bank say they will pay interest since I complained in 2012, totaling £23.08, but surely I am entitled to interest since the money was out in to a holding account. It is my money at the end of the day and they've agreed that so why are they only offering part of the interest?
Any advice, welcomed please.
A very happy reclaimer.0 -

Between 2005-2012 you chose to leave it where it was. 2012 was the point you effectively first asked for the money. So, as long as the terms of the account were applied before that date, there should be no reason to add any more money to it.
My guess on this is that the account went dormant and was closed in 2005 and transferred to a suspense account. That would explain why it appeared as closed. It wouldnt explain why someone at the bank didnt spot that it had gone dormant and look more closely to the amounts (which are normally available in the audit trail).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I contacted NS&I (through mylostaccount), and after some time they wrote back saying they couldnt locate them. So I gave up on them.
Then a few months later NS&I sent me another letter saying that they MIGHT have located them. I had to verify my signature.
Today (quite a few months later - I'd guess it's at the very least 5 months) I recieved my certificate - and it turns out that there's £45 worth of them.
Better still having just checked the NS&I site it appears that I won £50 in the October draw - nice one!!
However - I hope someone here can help me with this - the NS&I site only checks the past 6 months. How do I know whether or not I have won anything else over the past 10 years??!!
And also the NS&I site isnt very clear on how I get hold of the £50 I won - maybe they'll send that to me soon?
Either way....thanks very much to this site for helping me to relocate them. I'm (at least) £95 better off.
It was after reading about unclaimed Premium Bonds that I found myself wandering on this site . This site then fired up my "What you should have done 10yrs ago twitch!"
Within these house walls, I have safely put an envelope that was handed to me in 2003. It contained my premium bond that I didn't know I actually hadIt was purchased in 1964 for me by my parents who never had much, but found a one pound note to give me a solid start in life when it began.....
So my query is, what do I do with this £1.00 premium bond now? I've swept it under the carpet along with all the other envelopes that I didnt want to face at the time of my parents death.
So I feel that it is about time to sort things out... as it was a gift from my parents welcoming me to the world, they are named as the bond purchasers, altho as I recall it does state that it was purchased as a gift for me? Not being the purchaser, would that mean that my mum and dad are the Bond holders? If so, how do you set about getting the bond reciever to be set as its holder? I can't ask them as they have both passed away now...any help or advice in which direction I should follow would be gratefully recievedFank you,.... Betty Does

Well after my old pass books turned up I did a search and found this thread. Upon doing a little reading I decided to take them to the bank in my case the Yorshire bank. Today 25/7/13 I received a letter from the bank telling me the account had been closed on the 25 June 1985 and the funds been repaid without a passbook. I cannot for the life of me remember ever going to the bank and closing the account. I would have been about 17 at the time. Ah well see what turns up with the second account.0
