Lots of things are "quicker than the tin"
And, for a bet, if you cost out the pud that you made - which will give you four good helpings - it'll still be less than buying said tin?
Yes/no?
I'm not sure - I had all the ingredients already but would have had to go out and buy a tin so it feels like less anyway
Eggs 95p for 6, used 1 so 15.8p
Flour 60p a Kg used 125g (ish) 7.5p
Sugar 70p a Kg used 50g so 3.5p
Veg suet honestly can't remember as box went to recycling
Say 80p for 8oz used 2oz so 20p
Milk 75p litre, used 125ml so 9.4p
So 56.2, call it 56p for a large suet pudding, plus a bit for syrup and custard - got to be cheaper then a Heinz tin which isn't even as big!0 -
Thanks for doing that.
Four servings for 56p ain't all bad
Using value products and taking advantage of bogof's and yellow stickers can reduce even that cost too. ( I just ran my eye down my last shop from asda and I reckon I could shave 9p off that).
Somebody will be along in a minute to tell us that MrT or MrS is selling off whole shelves full at 10p each!Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Q: Because it reverses the logical flow of conversation.
A: Why is top posting frowned upon?
There's nothing to stop you doing these sums for pretty much anything that you make at home.
You'll find that the savings vary - some are HUGE... other not so much. But even for the not so much you know exactly what's gone into the meal. I have done this for several things now, I did the Pastry Economics and then Tortilla economics! SOup economics must be the best. I seem to make it out of things that would otherwise be thrown away!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

You lot got me fancying syrup pudding. So I made one for tea as well. Mine was a sponge though as I am not too keen on suet pudding. I prefer the suet in the dumplings. It was lovely by the way.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

Wow, you really were busy.
Would you tell me how to do the corned beef and potato ones - I've got a couple of cans lurking and that sounds like a good way to use them up.
