Read the microwave suet pudding recipe at 1.15pm and was overcome with longing: 2oz veggie suet in the fridge - it's a sign!

20 mins later I have a quarter of a suet pudding with golden syrup and custard for lunch! It's quicker than a tin! (And I did miss breakfast today...)

Lots of things are "quicker than the tin" :)

And, for a bet, if you cost out the pud that you made - which will give you four good helpings - it'll still be less than buying said tin?

    Yes/no?

It's very easy to make vegan too - veggie suet and powdered egg replacer works much better on a treacle pudding than on standard cake. I used to make this all the time, no wonder I got fat :)

I must admit I actually make my (packet mix!) dumplings in the microwave after ruining a couple of stews with gloopy dissolving dumplings.
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.

Try it with suet and flour , instead of a mix- it's dead easy...instructions on the pack...and they work every time on the top of stews. You then get the lovely taste of the stew. Give it a go this way.;)

Click on "pastry" on the right hand side then choose "dumplings" from the list.

  • half suet to flour, pinch or two of salt to taste enough water to make softish dough. Put on stew in slow cooker 1 1/2 hrs or so. An hour on casserole in oven.
  • That sounds soooo good my DH will think i am a genius if i can pull off a microwave pudding!!

Dumb question, is it okay to use value clingfilm in a microwave??

Mine says that it is suitable for microwave use on the box.

Hopefully it will say yes or no on the box that you have.

    HTH :)
