http://www.somethingsparkly.co.uk/ I have just bought that for £12 this morning in red!

Have you also seen http://www.silverjewelryclub.com/ - the jewellery is free, but the shipping to the UK is $8.99 - so less than £5 for a pair of genstone earrings. I got a gorgeous pair of garnet and cubic zirconia ones :)
  • You could try www.opusalbums.com

The owner, Daniel is in an online Chrsitian group that I visit, and he does lots of little knick knack things, like Photo Accordions etc, they look very reasonably priced, and you print them yourself. Please let me know if you use them, what they are like as I am thinking about them for my wedding.

    Regards

You need to use pillars (think they're called dowling?) between the layers to help support it... unless all 3 are fruitcake! and even then I'd still say you need to give it some extra support...
I bought a wedding cake stand off e-bay for I think £30 including delivery and when I am done it can go back on e-bay again and looking at the prices I should get the vast majority of my money back :)

I did this and was REALLY lucky & got more than I paid for it..... fingers crossed it works for you too

If you are still looking for rings try a local jeweller who buys and sells - we got both our wedding bands and my engagment ring from our local guy and it cost us under £100 for all three including engraving and resizing (and his band was more than mine together!!) They are just plain white gold and rose gold bands but were exactly what we wanted.

I did the cake-stand off ebay thing too and made my money back to the penny - in fact most of my wedding went back on ebay - I only kept the flowers (fake) and the dress - which I am considering putting on as I haven't even looked at it for two years. (may get it out on Monday to be sentimental tho :o )

    Congrats and good luck :A
  • Hi
We got married in Venice on Tuesday with a last minute (cheap) wedding, and got some lovely white gold rings from

They were made to order and delivered within 6 days of ordering, inc delivery £167
    Good luck!
  • In terms of cheap hotels it's worth looking at innkeepers lodge http://www.innkeeperslodge.co.uk/ as I've found them to be a lot cosier than other lodges and they have been better than many more expensive hotels I've stayed in. If your order there brochure it even picks out certain lodges that are known for their character or are in a good area for sightseeing. There is one near Arundel that I really like and was handy for visiting Chichester and Littlehampton.

I didn't hire a professional photographer to take my photos and they turned out great. All I would say is make sure that you give more than one person the job of taking photos and make them aware of any key photos you want before you start as it's a bit difficult for the bride to sort this on the day.

In terms of wedding supplies it might be worth trying www.partyrama.co.uk. IKEA may also be an idea for cutlery and also can sometimes be good for items to decorate. We borrowed from my cousin some big hearts (bought from IKEA) that lit up and they really looked fantastic we had so many compliments about them.

TK Max may be a possibility for a bridesmaids dress.
  • Hi,
Just some info for you regarding stacking the cakes.

There are several ways to do it depending on what look you want.

Firstly, if you are having a cake stand, you can get ones which have a plate for each tier so all you'd have to do is place each cake on - this is obviously the simplest way. You can hire cake stands but costs vary or like others have said you might get a cheap one from ebay.

If you don't want to do that you can use pillars placed on the bottom cakes to hold up the ones above. However, due to the weight of the upper tier(s) you'll need dowels to support. These are basically wooden or plastic rods which you place in the bottom tier, they are quite long so will come a long way out of the cake. Slip the pillars over the top and cut the dowels down to the top of the pillars. You can then just place the next tier on top and repeat depending on how many tiers you've got.

If you want the cakes stacked on top of each other then just use the dowels and cut to size in line with the top of the cake.

If you are using dowels at all then your cakes need to be on boards. As a rule they should come on little boards when you buy them but they will need to be stiff. If not you can buy cake boards from most supermarkets, just stick the cake on with a bit of buttercream / royal icing.

Remember if you are using dowels, tell whover is cutting the cake that they need taking out.

A couple of other tips. If you are having a stacked cake then you don't really need to hire a stand. You could buy a couple (or three) cake boards (gold or silver) in different sizes and stick them together to make a nice little home made stand - it looks very effective. Get say a 12" and 10" board, stick them together so you get a stepped effect with double sided stickytape and there you go. You can also stick ribbon around the edge of the boards in your colour scheme to tie it in, just put pritt stick round the edge and glue the ribbon round. You can get different sized boards from places like hobbycraft or the internet for a couple of quid each.

Also, if you want to try some diy decoration there are some cheap things you can do with off the shelf sweets that can look really effective. For white / cream cakes stick love heart sweets randomly on the cake - look pretty as they are pastel colours and you get some nice sentiments on some of them (just don't stick the rude ones on!). For a chocolate cake use maltesers - be careful in hot weather though! To stick things on the cake use some royal icing (you can get it in boxes from the supermarket - just add water). If you are using chocolate you can colour and flavour the royal icing with cocoa (mix it in with a hand mixer) - you might need a bit more water if adding this - just don't make it too runny, it needs to be quite thick.

Hope all that helps, PM me if you need any more advice.
  • I am currently breaking into the wedding photography market. I am offering a digital only service (you receive a DVD with all your photos on) for £350. There is no need to buy prints from me or an album, I live in Shropshire but am willing to travel....
