  • I did my wedding on a budget and my local village hall was very old and dated. However, me and some friends gathered lots of Ivy and entwined it with Christmas white fairy lights and decorated the hall twisting it around everything, I sure most of your relatives/friends will have these. I also had two of the Topary Trees from my mums garden and covered that in lights and lilac bows too, very magical.
  • Hi :D

I've read this forum and just thought we might help a bit... We are a couple very keen on photography. Both of has have been taking pictures for about 7 years now. We started with film cameras but now we both have Nikon DSLR's.

About two months ago we've been asked to take pictures of our good friends' wedding, which is going to take place in June. Therefore we offer to take pictures of your wedding just for a symbolic price, so as we get more experience and do a good thing at the same time. And you're gonna get two sets of photos shot by two different people with different views ;) But we can only provide the pictures as files, not a printed version (however, we can recommend a very nice and cheap option of having your pictures printed in a book).

If you're interested you may want to check out our websites:

If you decide you'd like us to take pictures of your wedding please send us an email (email addresses are to be found in the contact section of both of our websites) stating the date, times, places and any information that you consider relevant and we'll get back to you shortly.

    Cheers

  • Wow, it's so nice doing a wedding like this. It's our 20th wedding anniversary today and we did most of the same things. After I had sold my dress, bought out of the paper, I made a small profit(and pre-mse!) Friends did EVERYTHING else. We had our reception in the nice country pub next door to the church. They did a very basic, but lovely home cooked buffet meal. We paid for one round of drinks and then the bar was open for guests to buy their own. Cake, flowers, photos, cars all done by friends. The atmosphere was wonderful, with everyone pulling together, so lovely. There was an offer on with the rings at the time for hotel accommodation &dinner;we bought the rings separately for two receipts and got the honeymoon for free. Twenty years on and two children later I can honestly say I would do it that way again. I still remember the warmth from the proactive goodwill of our friends;my girls have grown up understanding that you don't need the show to make it a go! Have a wonderful day, but more importantly a wonderful rest of your lives.

I've been looking at the following site for wedding dresses:

    http://www.dressed-2-kill.co.uk/

Very reasonably priced considering some places I've looked!
  • Thank you guys for all your great ideas.

I went into a big Tesco yesterday and i grabbed a few bits there like cake decoration red flowers, guest book, confetti and some wedding party poppers. they also had some invitation cards but price was working out to be the same as the vista print ones which will be personalised. All in all the stuff cost me about £5.

I am back on hunting for the venue now and really by early next week i should have one so we can send the invites. I was hoping to get a church hall but they only advised me today that no alcohol is allowed to be consumed within the premises. Not that i was providing beer but i will be doing some cocktails and wine plus some of my family drink so they were going to buy their own beer. I have another possible venue. hoping to finalise everything this coming week.

ikkleosu - a bit of shame that seller doesnt have any flowers.

This weekend will be hitting some jewelers shops to see what rings they have and also try and get some valentine sale stuff.

    Happy weekend everyone
  • Have you tried https://www.studentgems.co.uk and posting your 'job' for a photographer at the wedding there?
The site is owned by a lady called Sue, and she is very helpful, and although its only about 6 months old, things are going really well. They also get a lot of press, so even if they haven't got someone suitable right now, they may have someone in the near future.

Good luck with it all :-) and congratulations

  • We had one beautifully decorated cake on display to cut etc and a much larger m and s type in the kitchen to share out. No one ever knew that it wasn`t the real one! except that it would have been too small for all the guests.

Have you tried asking on your local freecycle site for things like cake stands and decorative items for the hall?

I got a stack of plates from Ikea for about 0.39p each for a BBQ we had, would that be cheaper than hiring?

The best wedding I ever went to was a low-key budget affair that sounds much like yours.
It was more like a party, no stress of a pretentious day, just a fun day.

We bought 25 these and put 3 gerbera daisies in each. We had the florist make the mens flowers and 2 small bouquets. Total for all the flowers was less than £100. I think it was so small because 1) we did most of the arranging 2) I chose daisies which are cheap, plus they were in season.
