Sorry to hear about the problems some people are having with RM - yes there are some thieving posties( just as statistically there are thieving lawyers, policemen etc.....) but id let to make the point that until the last 5 years ago RM posties in the majority of cases had the training, management and systems to deal with the rogue elements. Im a postie myself and deliver to my own house where ive lived for 40 years - i know the people at every house and im so embarrassed by the state of some items i deliver, as well as tales of missing items etc. In the majority of cases this has nothing to do with the person walking up your path but in city areas where recruitment is an issue the systems in place (or lack of them) are an invitation to the less scrupulous. People ultimately have the final say - personal morality etc- and these folks will be stealing whether it s Rmail, kfc or envelopes from staples!!! The issue here is that RM management no longer have the money or skills to maintain a properly resourced public service and guess where the savings are being made? You and I all suffer the same and this decline in service and standards is gathering apace, believe me. Criticise your local postie by all means but if you think that Rmail care about anything but the Regulators financial penalties for missing targets then your in for a shock. In the meantime get the money whilst there is some left in the pot - my 10 years worth of pension contributions have gone missing from the Company scheme so kinda ironic from the Top down dont you think?

Best wishes to all for reading.

I know not all posties are bad, but some just don't try. I live in a block of 12 flats and he keeps putting all our mail in the wrong flats. This has included cheque books and credit card details as well as hospital letter with personal details on them.
I have rang the office and was told they would put a watch on my post, only to have it happen yet again. I was even told by them that this was unacceptable, but it's still happening.

This is the reason I joined this survey, to try and help get problems like this sorted out. I am not expecting my little bit I'm doing to make a huge difference, but every little bit helps.
Thanks for any help and advice given

Just for the record, and in defence of lovely postpeople, I :heart2: my postman! We only moved in to this house a few months ago so he doesn't know us that well, but he always has a smile and a wave for us, or stops for a quick chat on his round. He's a real sweetie (and not bad-looking either!) and seems to go the extra mile for people. I wouldn't swap him. :D :happyhear

Loads of people handle your mail on its journey, so it's unfair to blame the person who finally puts it through the door when something goes wrong. It's not often their fault.

And isn't that where doing the whole test thing can help? I like to think that by unleashing two or three SMARTS a week on a journey across Britain mail can be tracked and the problem areas/machines identified.

We seem to have a different postie delivering mail every day at the mo, but they are all really nice people who do a fab job - the problems (for us) are higher up the food chain. But I know others with awful posties - and a couple have been mentioned on this thread.

    I love my Postman too ... not literally ... I haven't time ... :o

He always puts parcels in an outside store ... almost nothing is taken back to the sorting office ... something I hate ... I used to live in the country and the sorting office for my postcode was 20 minutes drive away ... I like a postie that thinks on his feet and for the considers the customer ... :T

I agree that most of the problems are in the sorting offices ... I send a lot of stuff and letters are fairly fool proof but parcels have got lost ... However I have signed up for the additional survey on accurate posting ... which will judge my lovely postie .. There are rarely any errors ... but there are some ... I have been wanting to tell him as I do not want to get him into any trouble but the terms and conditions of PostalMI6 do state that one should tell NO ONE! ... :shhh:

What do others thinks .... I throw it open to the house ...

  • I did that two week survey as well.

IMHO you really can't tell him/her, as it would mess up the results of the survey. You might also get thrown off the panel as your id would be out there.

We have great posties, but there have been a couple of errors over the 8 years (which I think is quite acceptable, as they are human beings) when we have had the neighbour's post by mistake.

I was really relieved to have a 100% success rate for post being delivered for the fortnight.:T

I agree that most posties are great and they do a great service to the community by delivering our mail to our doors, however since moving a year ago I have been faced with a different postie every week with most of them not bothered to complete their task or look at which letters go to which door. Our current postie turns up at 4pm and when questioned about why our post comes so late now he simply says 'that's not late, 5 past midnight is late'. However I am determined that just because I get the bad ones doesn't mean that every postie is like this.
Keep up the good work guys, I hope I get a happy postie one day x.
