I had a very quiet day, then bang.....one after the other 5 sales on Amazon, one really good a video with clear profit of nearly £11.00 and at the other end a penny book, making a profit of 20p!!!

Also two BIN went on Ebay, so it has been quite an evening but I am drowning in books, packing paper, bubble wrap etc....

can you redirect me to the easy mans route to selling on bay sometime please?

i see books waiting to be sold on our bookshelves, and can't do much about it. we lent the camera out and its still out  but i've seen ppl selling books without photo's. is it worth it?

the wife's books are worth a penny according to amazon, yet she paid the full wack. do you think ebay might be the answer? without pictures?

she's also got loads of unopened clothes, still tagged etc. should i buy her a camera for xmas? or divorce her ;)

    thanks in advance. :)
  • Hi Mike - get your camera back!

I haven't tried selling anything on ebay without a photo but I suppose books are just about the best thing you can sell without a photo, but if I was buying and there was a choice of 2 auctions I think that I'd go for the one with the photo, silly I know, but there it is. Does your wife actually want to sell her clothes? she is probably saving them for just the right occasion :D .

Regarding getting started on ebay - this forum is great for sorting out peoples problems but if you just look here it makes ebay look like a minefield waiting to trap the unwary, you don't read here about the good experiences, just screaming thread titles about disaster and doom, I think that you have to give it a go and see that it can be very easy and rewarding.

I started selling on ebay in 1999, I have had getting on for 5000 selling transactions and only met 2 or 3 headcases (all American, sadly) I have had 2 negatives, both American again, both totally undeserved, and I have only totally lost around 10 parcels out of that 5000. When I first looked at this ebay board it seemed to be talking about a different ebay world to the one I know so I think that you should take my ebay experiences as a bit of a balance to all the annoying stuff you read about where it goes wrong.
There are lots of threads that I've seen here about getting started and I'm sure that a quick search will bring them all up for you. Give it a go....go on...there are people here to hold your hand.

AT or anyone? hoping you can advise.

This morning I had an email from Amazon regarding a failed attempt to buy a book I have listed. Typically it is an obscure one! Also was going to make a nice profit on it :( - anyway when I look in my open listings it is listed as 0 but it does not show up on my closed listings either. Will it automatically go back into the system???
Or do I have to relist it???
    Cheers me dears.

PS. Hope she/he sorts out the credit card and tries again!!!

  • Tough luck! if it doesn't get paid in 72 hours it's failed and you will need to relist it...you could try emailling the buyer and ask if she still wants to go ahead, maybe she could send you a cheque instead?

The item has been cancelled already
Thanks AT - I have been both a bit naughty and greedy. As there is only one other copy of the book in there (used) at £23.15 in acceptable condition, and mine is LIKE NEW I have gone in and upped the price. Amazon do sell it cheaper, but they have 4-6 weeks delivery, so I am hoping that special buyer will choose mine rather than wait!!!!!!!!!

It was a book that I thought would never sell, so I can wait.
    Thanks for replying.

I've been selling on Amazon for quite a few years, just a slow trickle of 2 or 3 items a week to make some pin money and reduce my stash of books, Cds etc but I've found that I've hardly sold anything this year. When I list anything there's always loads going for a penny, business sellers, shops or people frantically undercutting me by a few pence. I think there are just too many sellers now for the "enthusiastic amateur".
