I bought a paperback book today that on the second page where it says the title and author, a line has been drawn through the author's name and the name has been handwritten (signed?) in fountain pen above.

Am I safe to sell this as having been signed by the author?

No, You can say you believe the fly page has the authors signature but if you are not 100% sure it is genuine then don't say it.

Find it hard to believe that anyone would have forged it as it's nobody well known. Maybe if it was JK Rowling, but this is someone called Craig Raine who is a contemporary poet. Thought it might be a reason to bump the price up a bit ;)

Would you be allowed to include a link to a piccy of the alleged signature?

Not sure if a) allowed and b) how to do that!
  • Perhaps you could suggest that interested buyers could email you for a photo of the signature

  • A buyer has requested to return a book to me as he bought an incorrect edition. I am happy to do this but have not done this on amazon before.

    Also
the book was very expensive to post (6.94), am i right in saying that i will happily refund the book but posting it back to me must be at his own cost?

I assume that it was the buyer that made the mistake and chose the wrong book rather than you slipped up and put it in with the wrong editions? - sorry - had to ask.
So assuming that it was the buyer who made a mistake, I think you could either ask him to return it (standard parcels is the cheapest) at his cost then refund his original costs or suggest that he sells it on amazon himself, no refund needed.
  • Arrrgghh! A buyer has claimed they haven't received the book I sold. I have obtained a c.o.p. What is the procedure with amazon? Does the buyer automatically claim the money back from me like on ebay / paypal?

Particularly frustrated as I have had 18 months of no problem selling on ebay and within the last month a sudden surge of people claiming they havent received their items. Looks like amazon is going to be the same.
