hi guys, i really need some help, i havent slept all weekend thanks to a letter i got on saturday.me and hubby are currently in an IVA and have been for 1 year now. we had a few problems with payments when hubby lost his job but did the best we could. now obviously there are some arerears which we are trying to deal with.our problem is that we got a letter saying we had 966 arrears but on reading it they had added julys installment twice and hadnt included decembers payment so the true arrears figure is actually 494. i spoke to a nice woman on the phone who agreed what i was saying seemed right and i agreed with her that we would make an immediate payment which was due anyway (and would still make 12 payments in the next year as hubby is paid 13 times a year) taking the arrears down to 258 . we then agreed that i would increase my payments from 236 to 258 to clear the arrears.i was fine with all this and have made the first 250 payment last week. now the letter i have got says that we have to pay 966 immediately or the arrangement will fail ! !!!!!! i thought everything was ok. i tried to call but the person i need to speak to is off till tomorrow.i really need some advice here as i suffer very badly with depression and have spent every minute since saturday thinking there is only 1 way out and i have been so close to doing it.if you are still reading then thankyou so much and please help me

Hi -it sounds to me as if the second letter you have received is an automated letter churned out by the computer and has possibly crossed in the post.

What date did you make the arrangement and what date is on the second letter?

Don't worry, I feel it is going to be one of those admin !!!! ups that can easily be sorted. Whoever you spoke to on the phone - would she have made notes on your account on-screen that could be picked up by someone else in her absence?

its definately not crossed in the post, i made the arrangement about 4 weeks ago. this is why im so upset as i thought it was all ok . also if you dont mind me asking how do you get paragraphs, mine just seems to be 1 big block ???

Arrrrgh. Stupid admin things. Please please do not worry. They are probably just trying to pressurise you into paying what you can't afford. Idiots. Is there someone managing the IVA for you? have you asked them for their advice? You could be dealing with a really bad company? some are just really, really useless, and just demand money all the time.
Please phone the Samaritans if you need urgent help. It is only money at the end of the day - some things are more important. Hang on in there. You are dealing with the problem - they will shout and jump up and down and throw their toys out of the cot but at the end of the day they can't take what you don't have. You can only do your best at the end of the day. Take Care.

If you read the boards here there are loads of people who have been in similar situations to you and are on their way to getting things sorted or have sorted things. No matter how alone you feel you are not.
Perhaps the Citizens advice or someone could help you out? Give you a bit of support and muscle and lean on the idiots that obviously don't know what's going on.

You obviously have some great qualities:
you made a mistake (who hasn't?) and are trying to put it right
You are honest - you are trying your best
courageous - you want to pay the money back.

Don't give yourself such a hard time.

thanks for that, i did try to find some other threads similar but couldnt see any, i just feel so helpless, i have since been told i shouldnt even have been put into an IVA in the first place so this makes it so much worse. i just keep crying and have nowhere to turn

You have laods of options. Whether you should or shouldn't have entered an IVA I don't know but there is loads of support out there:
doctors
counselling
Samaritans
CCCS - will advise on the best way for your situation to sort things out - they are highly recommended on here although they can be very busy keep trying.
CAB - some are good in some areas and some are not so good but worth trying.
Everyone on here is a great source of comfort and support (well 99% are - you always get the odd idiot who wants to upset people but they are usually sent packing pretty quickly)

What you need is a big hug
:grouphug: and a cup of this :coffee: and some virtual biscuits. Real ones are even better though if you have some.

Please don’t upset yourself so much, it’s only money and certainly not worth ending your life for. Please contact one of the debt charities for advice and contact the Samaritans so you can talk through how you are feeling concerning this problem.

I have been to the same dark place as you and have come to realise that being in debt is not the end of the world. Believe me when I tell you we owe a hell of a lot more than you. These forums are absolutely fantastic for getting advice and support, they have helped me no end
