Hope you have some ideas now, I don't use my oven much for meals either. It might be an idea to put out a request for an oven Freecycle, you may get lucky. x

Hello there, sorry if this is a stupid statemnt but are you one hundred percent sure that your oven is broken, i thought mine was one day and was so close to buying another one when suddenly one day i noticed that the dial had been turned to 'auto' (kids:mad: ) i turned the switch to manual and hey presto, it worked. Happened to a friend also and she took my advice and checked, hers was the same. Just have a look, it might be worth it.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

MY OVEN HAS PACKED UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have told my Landlord and he has ordred the spare part and has said he will come and fix it, but he doesn't know when, as he doesn't know how long the part will take

I need to do next weeks shopping tomorrow and now have a total block and can't think of what to cook!
I have a microwave, sc, a george forman and the hob works, but my brain keeps teling me, shepherds pie, roast dinner, fish pie, lagsane, which clearly isn't going to happen! any ideas would be gratefully recived! Oh and what ever we have my two year old dd has the next day re-heated for lunch- but she's not fussy.

I'm off to morn the loss of my quiche that I made for my tea tonight FROM SCRATCH!! and my summer berry crumble!

    xx

Crumble can be reheated in the micro and so can the quiche and make baked potatoes etc to go with it - should be fine - mine went on new years night and the part came in 3 days.
Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j

There's no reason why you can't do a mash topped pie without an oven. Just make sure you assemble it all quickly and serve right away.

You can make pies on the hob if you use a suetcrust. See the last couple of pictures in this post ;)

In a similar vein what about steamed suet puddings like steak and kidney and stews or thick, meaty soups. We're having 'cottage pie soup' tomorrow -mince, carrots, potato, peas and beef stock. Add some dumplings.

Then of course there are endless pasta, rice and other grain dishes. Hashes, fry-ups, burgers, chops, steaks, sauteed chicken, fishcakes, fried/steamed fish, curries, spicy (or not) vegetable stews, savoury pancakes (layer with meat sauce and cheese sauce for a pancake lasagne), omelettes.....

Not really a problem is it;) ?

Well, we're in! Been lurking on here as usual, unpacking boxes and doing the usual moving house things...

Thankyou all who replied to my previous house thread about the oil central heating etc. So far I haven't filled up the oil tank but am getting by with the electric shower and tiny baths for the children:T. However next dilemma is we have no cooker:eek:. Been living off the microwave which i hate and have a camping stove on standby. The slow cooker has really come into it's own and I roast my first chicken in it a couple of days ago and we've just finished the soup and the last of the chicken for sandwiches today so that's great but i'm all out of ideas.... thankfully the children aren't nutritionally deprived just yet mainly due to nursery/school meals . But any ideas would be greatly received.. I miss my cooker, I miss home made bread, home made cakes, flapjacks, roasted veg, wedges oooooooooooooo all those lovely things that can be done so cheaply in the oven!!!!

I know you hate the microwave - but you can make fairly reasonable cakes/flapjacks in it. (I was much the same when I moved house and only had the microwave and a kettle) I know my mum makes a mean jam sponge pudding in hers. Not much help i realise but may help with the longing for HM goodies. If its a long term thing it might be worth getting a microwave cookbook - there are loads in my local chairty shop for pennies and that might help with the ideas.
