It did sound quite harsh & quite demanding in the way that it was written! If I'd volunteered & made so much effort for nothing in return I would have been a little offended at the tone - especially considering it was posted without bothering to read the original threads!
nothing to see here, move along...
  • Look I think the important thing to realise here is that no party intended there to be any grief. I volunteered using a list that had attempted to just get the days sorted asap. Little did I know that there was a duplication.

I'll apologise again to ryan85k (just in case you haven't seen any of my others). I understand more than any other how annoyed you must've been mate. I'm a bit confused though why you didn't just pitch for the 28th as you'd already put in hours of work on it. I don't at all mind doing though as I'd actually volunteered that day (along with the 12th, 16th, 20th and 25th).

ryan85k please don't let it put you off doing it in the future. I really appreciate the work you've done in the short time you've been on MSE and I've been sick to the stomach over my part in making you angry yesterday. I'm even prepared to share the thanks on this post and the 28th. I haven't done it for the thanks you see and I have just been getting on doing the ones I agreed to compile.

When I saw some of the comments on here I was seconds away from deleting the whole thread. But that would've been rather pointless and what's done is done. A mistake has happened- I've apologised, ryan85k has spat the dummy and thrown hours of work down the toilet (I would've been just as enraged) and there's still days that need doing. Hopefully something has been learnt from this.

It's my suggestion that if in future any of you spot a duplicate thread of ANY sort to question it's reasons for being around. If the new one is to sift through the rubbish then it should've at least carried over anything that was agreed in the original. But please be clear I'm not on some witch hunt trying to lay the blame on someone.

I don't think anyone was being harsh and I have TOTAL sympathy for ryan85k and really this is between us two. Hey it could've been me in his shoes instead.

Please accept this as a public apology.

Surely this wasn't aimed at me  All I knew was that ryan had already volunteered & if you'll see I had already thanked them both anyway. I wasn't rude, harsh or demanding at all so not sure what you mean. I was simply asking a few questions.

  • Can I please make a suggestion?

Let's all stop getting unnecessarily offended and consider just letting this matter rest (if that is ok with everyone).

To answer your quite relevant questions princessmoneysaver:

    A) I hope I explained this in my previous post. Like the endless Puzzler.co.uk threads I felt it necessary to stick with the more recent version. It even had all the dates there ready to pick out! I did glance at the other volunteer wanted thread but only the last page and saw that it was indeed people giving reasons why they couldn't do it. See that's how I read the threads.. I tend to read the most recent info first to remain up to date. I was surprised to see the no chat version had listed ALL the dates as unfilled but assumed the the person who had created it had done so out of frustration that nothing was happening in the original. I trusted that things were getting desperate. I'm not currently working so immediately volunteered loads of dates TO HELP OUT.

    B) Similar to creating a listing for a comp that doesn't even start until some future date (or ones that are in multiple phases), bumping is VERY easy. I'm in charge of the dates I agreed on so will keep both my eyes open. This INCLUDES adding further posts added after my compilation and bumping it if it gets a little lost under the sea of more recent posts. As you'll see on the 12/02 one I have already done this and will do it again tomorrow. If you think you aren't ready to look at the 29/02 then it would most probably hardly register on your radar. You'll see that combined we have already done to the end of the week. Folks have every opportunity now to take their pick. To me that's FAR MORE efficient than poor bella165 getting RSI and it frees us ALL up to complete the comps in the way that each of us prefer and in our own good time.

Hi Ryan, I think everyone was going with the dates in this thread instead as the dates were getting a little lost in the thread you mention. Please do not be angry. Thanks Monsieur E

This thread appears to have been deleted, which hasnt helped matters. The thread included all dates and basically if you wanted to help you copied the remaining dates, deleted the one you were going to do and start a new post with the remaining dates.

I too spent 4+ hours on the competitions ending the 17th Feb, only to find someone else has posted them. I did them over the weekend and, bearing in mind other comments decided to post nearer the time.

I only wanted to help and give something back, but it has been a nightmare, I dont think Ill be doing it again.

well done on the list, but I'm not sure how you're gonna add all the other comps with the same end date that are added later? Are u gonna go through all the pages again?

Let me switch that round and say how is anyone going to work on these threads until maybe the last day before the competitions end? Are people so ahead of themselves that they are only going to be checking all the competition ending threads AND know how far they had worked through them:confused:

Sorry - but I think these threads have got totally out of hand and upset more people than helped. :o

  • Hundreds thank each of these compilation threads each time. You alternatively state your opinion as though loads of people are getting hurt in the process. In all seriousness I'm aware of 4 (yes I'm part of that number).

Sure our wires have gotten crossed a little in this transitional stage from taking responsibility away from bella and a LOT of time has ended up being uselessly wasted. Clearly some things need ironing out. But hundreds of people find them useful and have encouraged us to continue making them all the same.

What I would like to suggest to everybody is a more radical way of looking at this.

Why don't we start ONE new 'sticky' thread with the sole intention of compiling end date comps in the one place with the following format:

    1) each date can only be 'pitched' for in date order - simple first one in gets it

    2) each compilation of 'date ending comps' can only be created in a previous 'pitch' - erasing the 'pitch' by a simple edit by the person posting it

    3) this means the posts would run in STRICT date order and all in a single thread - and a theoretical maximum of 31 posts

    4) as each date passes each expired post is deleted (but ONLY after the day has passed.. not during the same day!!)

    5) ALL chat and duplicate 'pitches' would be removed daily

This would avoid all this backstabbing stuff about the sheer volume of ending comps lists and duplications. People would have a clear SINGLE thread to check and life would go back to normal for those who love this forum ol' skool.

Just a suggestion. What you think? Maybe I'm just losing it?!

Simple really - leave this forum "as is" and let people use Loquax and Prizefinder if they want to filter by end date / ending soon.

Quick question - was this forum members consulted on their opinions on these posts before you went on your merry way and did them? It all seems a mess now. The sooner the boardguides get a grip and sort this out the better. :o
