Mudbath - sorry to hear your news - try not to fret to much (oh how easy that sounds!) offering you big hugs and lots of positive vibes.

As to the birdfeeders, I find in these 'ere parts, the birds have set feeding times. Usually about an hour after sunrise, then again about 1pm ish then again about an hour before sunset. I've been able to watch them quite a bit this last couple of days working from home - they are great timewasters!

I have the obligatory bully-boy asbo starlings that fly in, attack the fat balls for five minutes and squabble amongst themselves then off they go again. There's my resident robin which I swear is the same one I watched grow up from fledgling about 2 years ago. The resident pair of wood pigeons and numerous coal, blue and great tits. I was really privileged yesterday and today to see a lady blackcap. Apparantly they are only rarely seen in this country in the winter. Also, today, I saw a pair of goldfinches feeding. Normally they visit next door.

And of course, the squirrel. But I knew it wasn't you because its arm wasn't attached to its head...

Mudbath my thoughts are with you.

I love watching the birds in the garden at work. There is a huge wood behind us. We also get a little robin coming regular and Im sure its the same one. We also get foxes sometimes during the night. There is lots of greenfinches and tits about. Oh and red squirrels.

Soappie Yes it was Alnwick. I love up there and that area.

    Hi all,

Thinking of you Mudbath... I think the waiting must be the worst thing.

Had a funny day as M+FIL came to take out dd for the day, but came just before lunch which set all my plans off kilter! However, DH decided to take an hour off work so while dd went off with grandparents to look at the ducks, DH and I mooched round a garden centre (bought nothing!:A ) then I went to bed for an hour and had a bath- first one in 6 months!!!!! It was lovely. Just don't seem to have the time, plus bathroom right next to dd's bedroom and bath is a bit noisy so I don't tend to bother!

So do I. I've been up there a couple of times on holiday traipsing the graveyards etc. on the trail of my family history. One lot of my ancestors lived for many years in Craster - the men working the boats and the women digging the bait and working on the catch.

It's one of the places in the country that I feel a real deep affinity for. I would love to be able to retire there. The scenery is stunning and the castles amazing. Trouble is, if I go on holiday, it takes hours from the south coast to get there.

Soappie Ah Craster famous for its kippers. Luckily I dont live far from the area and often stay with friends in Alnwick. It is a long way for you to travel. Hope you get your wish to retire there.

    Mudbath - I didn't mean to!

Thanks for the prod though - I dysoned the ground floor, fed the dogs n cats, changed the litter tray, emptied DW, put the boys school coats in WM, sorted some clean washing out, got the boys stuff ready for the morning, put all the dvd's back in their right boxes and prepped the veg for dinner!

Thanks everyone - I wasn't going to mention it but it's lovely to have all your support.

Soappie - I loved the reason given for your edit on an earlier post 'because I forgot to mention the sparrow family'!! I'm always to busy to watch them first thing but I find they usually come to feed at about 3. I think the reason I haven't seen them is I don't take the time to sit and watch which is what I did today. So, that's going to be on my list from now on...watch the birds!

In my HHC I managed to shower both children and put special shampoo on them as they've both been diagnosed with serelbum dermititis. I think it's wierd they've both been diagnosed in the last few months and now it looks like I have it too. Wondering if it's an allergy more than anything else. I also sorted out their veruccas...aren't I painting a lovely picture of my children, lol! Aren't children a great leveler.

I've just opened a nice bottle of sparkling wine and i'm going to do commercial break flying for the rest of the evening.

Mudbath, enjoy your wine! I raise my glass of white in a toast to you!

When ORF gets to the next stage and the web cam is installed, once I've caught the ORF perp, I shall then set it up to point to the garden so I can watch the birds in the quiet moments from work.

I don't know how your house is orientated but I'm fortunate in that I have a large window in my kitchen that overlooks the back garden so I watch the birds as I do things like peel veg etc. I've also been known to set the ironing board up facing the window when there's nowt on the TV so I can watch as I iron.

I've also found that it helps to sprinkle a little bit of bird food on the ground too. This encourages more of the 'bottom feeding' type birds - i.e. those who aren't agile or little enough to sit on the feeder percher like the blackbirds and magpies. It also means Mr Squirrel doesn't climb up the bird feeder poles to try and steal the feeders quite so often!
