I will but i cannot understand the thinking behind the new book tinned mince and frozen mash you might as well buy a ready meal
glad someone thinks as i do at the same time as well
...well of course it isn't really a new book. Not in the true sense of the word 'new'. ...let's see .... 1971 from 2008....... hmmmmm."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

I was a great fan of hers in the earlier series because there was nothing showy about her cooking style and everything was very simply explained. I have a horrible feeling I'm going to be disappointed by her current series if it features too many ready-processed ingredients. I know the reality of cooking meals has changed greatly over the past 20 years with so many working mothers who don't have a great deal of time, so I will reserve judgement until we've seen a couple of programmes.0

Things like using packet mash etc. Why not just teach us the recipes and let us speed them up ourselves if we want? What was the point in teaching us "How to cook" only to come along later to teach us how not to cook?
yeah it would be better if she showed us her recipes from scratch and then maybe added a bit saying something like you could save time by using packet whatever this and that and the other0 -

I can kind of see the point IF it's done as a way of introducing people who *never* cook to the idea that they can produce something edible without buying a ready meal. For instance, if it's done in such a way as to show that cooking isn't scary and 'this is how you can make a shepherd's pie, and it's only one more step to make your own mince mixture and it'll taste just as good' ... I doubt it'll be like that though. Seems like it's just one massive advert for various companies who are anxious to be touched by the 'Delia effect'. Sounds like an very cynical marketing attempt tbh.0 -

Deliberately avoiding the obvious pit trap and immediately assuming that you mean Fanny Craddock, do you mean the one for roast swan, where she put the head and wings back on?The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
Im going to watch, but dont think i will get much from it - i think showing people how to bulk cook their own roast potatoes, and freezing them, would be a better idea than giving Aunt Bessies a plug!!!
On Richard and Judy the other day, they made her tinned lamb shepherds pie, and almost everyone who tried it said it tasted like a ready meal, and not as good as a home made one!!!
I supose it is a way of getting people who live on ready meals in the kitchen, maybe once they can make their own shepherds pie with tinned stuff, it might help them graduate onto proper mince and potatoes!!!0 -

Isn't her shepherd's pie a tin of mince topped with a pack of frozen mash.
Basically a ready meal but with more washing up - madness.0 -
I stopped buying the 2 main foodie magazines as I was sick of every other recipe using a 'jar of cheese sauce' or 'packet of batter mix' etc. IMHO a cookery programme / book should teach you how to make a dish from scratch, not how to assemble pre-prepared items. That's not cooking, it's throwing together carp and hoping for the best.
And yes, I'm a busy, heavily pregnant mum with a very active toddler, who on regular occaisions will bung together a jar of this with a packet of that. But you dont need a recipe for that. And who the heck will ever believe that St Delia uses instant mash???I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle0 -
I can't fail to notice that Aunt Bessies Frozen Mash potato is advertised with a massive orange label 'a DELIA cheat ingredient'...
wonder how much she is getting paid by the food manufacturers
for every pre-processed ingredient she puts in her book
+ let's them use her name on the packaging!
I think she has sold out big time.0
