Delia has lost it she no longer spends any time cooking, whips up convinience food then legs it out to the shed to fondle her four years worth of crockery and cooking impliments. What a terrible programme, pre grated cheese and frozen mash  . The woman has lost it :p

I thoought this was an interesting interview - especially the bit about how often Delia says she is misquoted. Not seen the series, but having once had the misfortune to taste tinned mince can't believe she's indorsing it.

re the cost of the ingredients - maybe theres a delia cheat bank loan available to pay for them?

  • If you're reading this after watching the programme, what did you think? Should I look out for the repeat, or buy the inevitable book?

Suppose, from the above replies, that'll be no and no :D;)

Wondering whether somebody should gently point Delia in the direction of this thread to read..... it should be useful feedback for her to find out how some of her former faithful audience react to this new direction. Or maybe she is among us here already??

  • I agree she does seem to have lost the plot. I wasn't going to bother watching but I was watching the wildlife prog on before it - so watched first half of Delia out of curiosity before turning off in boredom/disgust. What kind of people are so busy that they can't take 2 minutes to grate some cheddar! As for pre-grated parmesan - that stuff tastes like something out of the bottom of a hamsters cage compared to freshly grated! And those 'meals' she 'cooked' looked awful with all that processed food assembled and reheated. Even if lack of time and cooking skills is an issue I am sure there are more inspiring, appetising (and affordable!) dishes you could come up with. Quails eggs!??

Does the woman really even like food!? Where's the passion!? Watched Jamie on More4 last night and what a contrast - he may be irritating at times but at least he appeared enthusiastic about what he was doing and made stuff you would actually want to eat! (Made 'Welsh Rarebit' after watching last night, without the chilli jam but on homemade bread - yum!)

  • well i have just watched Delia that i taped from earlier and had to come straight on here to find out what other people thought!
Frozen mashed potato - that is soooooooo wrong.
I am all for short cuts and quick bakes but that really was very very wrong.
  • I watched the programme tonight and thought that it was just "odd" - I usually like watching her TV programmes because she is very relaxing to watch and gives precise instructions but tonight I thought it was all too staged. I have bought Aunt Bessies Mashed potato once when it was on offer and it isn't very nice at all - it is too watery and I can't imagine it would have been nice on the top of those dishes. The grated cheese was ridiculous and I noticed that she was using freshy chopped herbs so I would personnally grate my own cheese or peel my own potatoes and used dried or bought herbs! That dish with the potato wedges looked rank - and those McCain wedges she used have a really chemically taste as DD1 sometimes gets me to buy them as she likes them. I bet it is a popular programme though and expect to see on the news that shops can't get enough stocks of Aunt Bessies mash!

How come she can make time to finely chop a leek but not to grate a bit of cheese.

Also, why not just tell people to make a big batch of real mash potato and freeze it.

There's some flawed logic going on there in the name of product placement.

I have learned all kinds of OS tips from this site and now using up a glut of frozen items, prepared by me, before I move, so the cheat's guide is good for me just now.

I do have some instant mash lurking in the cupboard given to me by my son:D
